The grenade exploded and I was caught in the explosion.
I thought the explosion would hurt me or kill me? But the explosion didn't do anything to me? The fire the grenade explosion made, began to react to what I did? Like as if I could control it? The fire started to come closer and closer to me and I felt the heat of the fire gather around my body.
"Cassie?" said Rubie worriedly as she watched the robot guard's flea from the battlefield we had created. "What, what is it?" I asked as I looked at my hands and felt the fire heat up all around me. "Cassie, you're on fire!" said James and slowly made his way towards me, while I backed away, afraid to hurt them all like I did the robotic guards.
"Cassie" said Harry and walked up to me, still with his gloves off. "You remember last night?" continued Harry and got closer to me, "Think about the cold again! Think about whatever that helped you back then" said Harry.
I listened to Harry once again and I thought of the cold winter storms back home and the day when Jaden was taken from me, but it didn't help? I kept thinking of the men that grabbed Jaden, hitting him and dragging him in the army van while he screamed for my help.
I felt the fire around me burn and sting me. It got warmer and warmer for every memory I had with Jaden, but when I thought all hope was lost of me controlling this nightmare of abilities that I had gotten. I remembered how Harry risked his life to help me control my abilities the other day. I thought of the cold nights at the prison, I thought of the cold, but incredible night where harry and the others fought to protect me and Sam and I slowly but surely, I felt my body starting to cool down.
"Cassie?" I heard from the darkness, "Cassie, you did it!" said the same voice as I opened my eyes.
Rubie and Janice stood right by me, while the rest of the guys kept their distance from us. "Cassie don't freak out" said Rubie calmingly as I looked over at Harry, who just stood there, just a few feet away from me and covered his eyes. "You're naked" said Janice and cut straight to the chase.
Rubie and Janice both grabbed some sharp metal debris from the robotic guards and cut both tops of their prison suits to help me cover up the parts that needed to be covered up.
"Don't worry, we'll go to town and find us all something new to wear" said Harry and assured me that I didn't have to wear a shirt instead of pants.
Harry, James and Janice kept a look out as Rubie, and I started slowly moving towards town. Even though Rubie and I weren't even halfway down the small overgrown path, the others caught up to us rather faster than expected. "Where are we going?" asked Rubie as she kept buttoning my make-shift skirt as some of the buttons popped, "I know where to go..." replied Harry determined and ran in front of the group to lead the way.
We continued down the overgrown path towards town and walked ever so hidden behind the houses close to the edge of town. James helped me to get over some of the garden fences, all the way until Harry said stop in the back-garden of a house.
I looked at Harry and so did James, but I don't think James and I were in the same wavelength. "No Harry, not here" said James, almost in shock as he realized where we were and kept resisting to go inside the house.
"Harry, where are we?" I asked and tugged at the shirt I was given to cover my top, as It didn't really fit me or was in my size. "We're at my parents house" replied Harry and saw the disappointed look on James's face, "Where else can we go James!" snapped Harry as he started looking for the keys to their backdoor, "I don't know, Maybe the neighbors?" replied James as disappointed as he was and tried to come up with a solution.
"The Michael's don't have what we need!" explained Harry as he unlocked the backdoor and waved for us to come inside.
James- and Harry's house was just like any other house in the neighborhood, the house was large with a small kitchen and the house had a second floor where most of the bedrooms were.
"Rubie, Janice and Cassie, upstairs and to the right, Sam you go with James" said Harry and commanded us around like soldiers.
Rubie and Janice were fast as they ran up the stairs and into the room Harry said we should go into, but I stayed a little behind and looked around the house. I saw the newspaper Harry's parents had left out from this morning and I saw the left-over coffee, probably his father had completely forgotten about.
I turned around and walked up the narrow steps towards the second floor, when I briefly caught the glints of Harry changing clothes and he noticed it!
"Hey Cassie, come get yourselves some clothes!" yelled Rubie from the other room and ran over to get me. Rubie grabbed my wrist before she dragged me into what I only can presume is Harry and James's parent's bedroom? She opened their parent's closet and grabbed whatever they found in there.
Rubie found a grey tank top and a pair of pants that fit me more than the other pants Harry's mother had. Rubie however grabbed a red flannel that completely matched her fiery looks, Rubie looked as stylish as I could imagine she would've if she wasn't locked like the rest of us were. Janice grabbed a sweater and a pair of pants, again she looked exactly how I would imagine her to look like if we all weren't locked up.
I looked around in the mess Janice, Rubie and I had made and found a strikingly perfect looking denim jacket with flames embroidered on the back of it. "Take it" said Rubie as she saw that I locked my eyes at the jacket, "Yeah, it suits you" continued Janice and further encouraged me to take Harry's mother's jacket.
I lunged over the bed to grab it, when suddenly we heard a scream from the downstairs. I looked out the wide-opened bedroom door and saw that Harry ran as fast as he could to see what was happening downstairs.
"Mom, don't worry!" I overheard Harry say from the downstairs as Rubie, Janice and I slowly made our way towards the stairs. "Who are these people!" yelled Harry's mother as she threateningly held her phone in the air and her pepper spray in the other hand pointed towards us. "Mom, calm down!" said James as he emerged from the basement with little Sam in his arms.
"Oh my god, James you're here too?" said their mother and eventually dropped the pepper spray and put her phone in her back-pocket to hug them. "So, you were the inmates that broke out?" asked their mother with tears in her eyes.
James nodded as he removed his glasses to wipe the tears he had in his eyes.
"You need to go! Now!" said Harry's mother aggressively as she turned around and looked out the front door. "He's here?" asked Harry as he nudged Rubie, Janice and I to get ready to leave, "Yes, your father is out in the car" replied Harry's mother as we all collectively started going out the back door of the house.
I was one of the last ones out, before James and Harry gave their mother one last hug and ran for the door, not even looking back once!
"Steven! The house got robbed!" yelled Harry's mother as we ran to cover up what we had done to their place, even though she knew it was stupid when we only stole some clothes from them. We ran as fast as we could behind the houses, down the street and later we started going out of the town to the abandoned part of town.
In the abandoned town, there were usually teens and kids running around and scaring people explained James as we all got lost in a corner. "Do you even know the way?" asked Janice impatient and started to shiver from the cold gust of wind that blew in the corner.
"Yeah. I do know the way, but it seems like something here has changed?" said Harry and started looking around, "Yeah, you're right" said James and started looking around as well.
"What are you guys looking for?" asked Rubie and adjusted the position Sam was in on her back, but neither of them replied.
It wasn't until the cold gust of wind got colder and colder as the shadows around us moved faster than usual, that we realized we were trapped.
