Romania (Vladimir Popescu) x Reader

People roamed the streets in search of witches as fear spread throughout the town. Vlad watched the men in the street from the window in worry. "Vlad?" A familiar voice called out to him, and he closed the window to look at them. "Is something wrong?" (Y/N) asked, concern clear in her voice. He sent her his trademark smile "Everything is fine. Did you do what I asked of you?" She nodded and watched as he relaxed slightly. He placed a soft kiss on her lips "Rest for now. We have a long journey ahead of us." (Y/N) hesitated "You should rest too. You've been up all night working on your magic." He gently squeezed her hand "I'll join you soon. I have to finish up some last minute things." She squeezed his hand and placed a kiss on his cheek "Don't take long." He watched her walk away with a small smile. He got to work quickly on searching for last minute items they would need during their journey.

He knew the town had heard word of him practicing magic and he knew they were going to come after (Y/N) and him soon. He felt guilty for dragging her into the mess. She was innocent. He ignored the shouts coming from the town centre as he worked a bit faster. He stared at the map laid across the table and searched for routes that would be safe for the young married couple to take. (Y/N) awoke three hours later to notice Vlad asleep at the table. She smiled fondly at the sight before shaking him gently to wake him "It's time to go. Did you finish?" He blinked the sleep away and nodded. He explained their route to her as she packed up her final belongings and dressed in comfortable clothing.

Vlad finished his explanation and (Y/N) smiled at him. She pulled him into a kiss "I love you." His bright smile appeared on his face for the first time in days as he, in turn, pulled her into a kiss "I love you too." He stood from his seat at the table "Are you ready?" She grabbed onto his hand for reassurance as she glanced around the small house "I am." The smile on his face disappeared in realization. He was asking her to leave everything she had ever known behind. 'It's to protect her' he thought, pulling the hood over his head. They exited the house and began the journey. The sounds of the town slowly disappeared as they trekked throughout the forest. Vlad held a tight grip on her hand, fearing the possibility of losing her in the forest. (Y/N) easily kept up with him and ignored the unfamiliar sounds of the forest surrounding her. Night fell and (Y/N) cuddled into Vlad's side. He lit a fire with his magic to keep them warm during the cold night. The two easily fell asleep with the knowledge of the other by their side.

The journey continued for another week before they stumbled upon the town they were looking for. (Y/N) internally praised herself for packing more food than Vlad wanted to bring. He squeezed her hand before pulling her toward the town. The locals paid them no attention as they walked through the centre of the town. "Is this the right one?" She questioned, looking at all the new sights curiously. (Y/N) didn't mind it here. He nodded and looked over at her with a soft smile "Do you think it could work?" She nodded with a bright smile "I think this could be our new home." Vlad didn't reply, but she didn't mind.

They arrived at a house bigger than their old one. Vlad impatiently knocked on the door as he glanced around. A male with dark hair and pale skin opened the door "Vlad? (Y/N)?" She smiled up at him "Is it alright if we stay with you for a bit Andrey?" He curiously looked between them before nodding and moving out of the way. "I'll explain later. Do you mind if I have a moment alone with (Y/N)?" Vlad asked, giving his friend a pleading look. Andrey agreed and left the room. (Y/N) looked at Vlad curiously "Is something wrong?" He watched her carefully.

He took in each feature of his face to burn it into his memory "I have to leave." She frowned "Why? Didn't we leave so we could be together?" He ignored the tears forming in her eyes "It's for your safety." "How does you leaving benefit me?" "If I stay, and they find us here, you'll die. I don't want that to happen" he explained, tears forming in his own eyes. She shook her head "If they find us we can leave again. Please, I can't live without you." He blinked away his tears as he pressed a soft kiss to her lips "I'm sorry. I need you to stay." She brushed away his tears "Please don't leave." He pulled away from her. He tried to ignore the tears streaming down her cheeks "I'm sorry." She watched as he left the house without another word.

Requested by @Creator-Savannah

It's an angst fic as requested, though is it angsty enough, I'm not sure. It's loosely based on the witch trials that occurred, but more the movies I've seen on them because I've never formally studied the historic event.

I got his name from google, and I think it makes sense, though the last name came as a surprise to me.

Andrey = Bulgaria (popular male Bulgarian name apparently). I know Bulgaria had some witch trials, but the two are friends and the witch trials weren't the biggest deal, so I made his town a safe town for her.

The fact that he doesn't reply to her comment at the end of paragraph four hints that he's not staying.

Due to this being a request, I uploaded it on Wednesday (It is 11:27 pm, but it's still Wed. in my country)

Hope you enjoyed.

Spain will still be uploaded on Friday.
