Chapter 40: The Road Home

                                    

                                          
They all stood in a circle as they awaited for Pidge to return. Maisey and Keith hadn't told anyone yet that they were in a relationship, and they didn't really know how relationships worked, so they just kept gazing at each other. She feared that they had gotten together too quickly, she was very insecure about their relationship, they could both be stubborn and she feared that might start trouble between them. But what if they broke up? That would destroy team Voltron. She was stressing and so she took some distance from the group, Keith noticed and followed her.
He watched Maisey walk off, he could see by the look on her face that something was bothering her and now he wasn't afraid of asking what it was or if he could help, he used to be afraid of showing people he cared, but not around her. He was starting to get anxious, maybe she was so down because she was having second thoughts about their relationship.
But his fears shrunk easily, he watched how she twirled her hair. Even when she was stressing over something she still managed to look cute. He sighed with a smile on his face as he looked down at her. Maisey was small, not as small as Pidge, but not much taller either. Her face was looking a lot better, the blood in her eyes was gone and her black eye was lessening. 
"Hey, everything allright?" He asked her as he touched her hand.
Maisey was in some deep thoughts because she slightly jumped when he touched her hand, she smiled once she realized it was him.
"Yeah, just a little scared," she whispered as she let her fingers interwine with his.
"Of what?" He asked, "you're Mighty Maisey, you shouldn't be scared."
Her face turned red and her eyes widen once he spoke those words.
"You saw that?!" She asked referring to the voltron show.
"I think the entire universe did," Keith laughed, something he wasn't always comfortable with, but Maisey always made him feel at ease, "but seriously, what's bothering you?"
"Aren't you afraid? Of our relationship?" She asked him. He frowned upon her words, for the first time in his life he wasn't afraid of a relationship, he wasn't afraid of showing his emotions. No, she made him feel like he belonged somewhere, so he wasn't afraid.
"Honestly, Maisey, I'm not afraid at all," he said, she frowned, "you can look at me like that, but I'm telling the truth. Why are you afraid?"
"What if things don't work out between us? What will that do with the team? What if things end so badly between us that we can't even be in the same room together?" She asked, her eyes were blurry. 
"Those thoughts have crossed my mind, a long time ago," he said, "that's why I said what I said back at the Kral Zera.. but I'm not afraid anymore."
"You're not?" She asked rather confused. He didn't blame her, he had been scared of this for a long time.
"I've never been more sure of anything in my life, I love you Maisey," he said as he touched her cheek, "and I always will, you've changed my world."
Maisey stood there, silently for a while untill her eyes were filled with tears. She jumped and hugged him tightly, she threw her entire body on him, leaving him stumbling backwards before he found his balance again. He wrapped his arms around her and closed his eyes, taking in every little moment.
"I love you too," she cried and he couldn't help it but laugh at the sound of her cracking voice, "so much!"
"OH ARE YOU GUYS DATING?!" Hunk screamed so loudly they actually fell over.
Maisey helped him get up, once she got off of him. 
"Yes, we are," Keith answered as he looked down upon her happy face, her eyes were twinkling and her smile was beautiful.
"Can you believe it?" Maisey said excited as Allura walked over and hugged her.
"Oh, I'm so happy for you two," Allura said as she let go of Maisey and hugged Keith.
"They're dating Allura, they're not engaged," Lance said as he walked over to Keith, "I may approve, and I may think of you as a friend, but ever hurt her feelings and I'll kick your quiznaking butt all the way back to Arus."
"Thank you Lance," Maisey sighed, but hugged her best friend anyway.
"It was about time," Pidge said as she held her hand up towards Coran. Coran grunted and gave her some gac.
"Wait did you guys bet on us?" Maisey asked, she took Keith's hand back into hers.
"Well, of course we did," Pidge said as she gave the gac Coran had given her to Avrigg, "it was quite intresting."
"Even you did?" Maisey said as she walked towards Avrigg, Coran and Pidge, followed by Hunk and Lance.
"Who would have thought?" Shiro said with a big smile on his face.
"Avrigg, Coran and Pidge it seems," Keith joked.
"You've grown so much Keith," Shiro said, "I'm so proud of you."
Krolia also made his way over to him.
"I am so happy for you two," She said, he watched how Maisey was arguing with Pidge, Coran and Avrigg whilst Lance, Hunk, Allura and Romelle couldn't stop laughing, he smiled. He was so happy.
"I hope you two will be happy," she said as she hugged her only son.
"I know we will be," he said once they let go, "she's the most amazing person I've ever met."
"You need her, she needs you," Shiro said, "you two complete each other."
"Couldn't have done it without you," Keith said happily looking from Shiro to Krolia, it is true that Shiro had given him advice in the past, and his mother encouraged him to admit his feelings. Avrigg also helped, she helped him realize that he loved her so, so much. And Maisey helped him realize that he wasn't destined to be alone, he needed a ray of sunshine like her in his life. He smiled as he looked at everyone, he saw how Maisey starting hugging his spacewolf once the agruement was over. He saw how Lance and Hunk were fooling around. Romelle was talking with Coran and Allura and Avrigg was having a conversation with Pidge. He looked at Shiro and Krolia. He loved these people so much.
"Come on, we have to go," Shiro said.
