Reese «
I'm not sure what I was thinking, or why I would possibly tell Sierra what I was just about to tell her.
How could I express a feeling I wasn't even sure I was having?
As annoying as it was, maybe the random call from Garret was for the best.
I didn't have much time to think about it, since I heard from downstairs that Adam and his sons arrived.
"Damn, they're here."
"Why do you sound so unhappy-"
She was interrupted by the sound of small feet running up the stairs.
"Reese! Can we go play your computer?" Lou said, running up to me.
"I don't care, go."
The boys wasted no time, running straight into my room to most likely play some random internet game.
"Why does it feel like you dislike them?" Sierra said, crossing her arms.
"I love them. Just in doses."
"You know one day you're gonna have to get used to kids. What if your parents want more?"
"All I can do is hope those kids get here after I'm gone."
"Reese." She scoffed.
"What? I like having a quiet home."
"Wow..selfish."
Before I could retort, again I stopped myself mid sentence. From downstairs I could hear the familiar sound of quiet adults speaking— and it piqued my interest.
"Reese? You good?" Sierra said examining my blank stare.
"Shh. My parents are talking about something..serious."
"How can you tell?"
"It's the tone. You wanna go spy?"
"Not really.."
"Let's go sit on the stairs, I gotta see what this is about."
Farrah «
"I'm not quite sure what to do Adam." I confessed.
I usually had some type of plan, but this situation with Sierra was unique.
With all the kids upstairs, Me, Adonis, and Adam discussed what could possibly be done. And with Adam in social working— he probably had the best idea.
"Are we sure group homing isn't an option Farrah? There are plenty for her age-"
"I told her we wouldn't have to do that.."
"Our first focus should be getting her out of her grandparent's home. They're not gonna let her go without a fight, right?" Adonis interjected.
"Those grandparents are another story. I didn't share this with Sierra of course, but when I spoke to them about the phony rehabilitation program..they were saying they wanted her out the house, they spoke of her as some type of burden on their lives."
"That doesn't mean they'll let strangers take her out of their custody, Farrah."
"They're abusive, Adonis."
"I'm just saying, there has to be an investigation in order to take her out of their custody. It isn't that simple-"
"If you two will listen for a moment," Adam spoke up over Adonis and I. "There are options we can explore."
"Like?"
"Does she have any other family, around here?"
"In the notebook I gave her, she wrote some things about an aunt, apparently that's who she was supposed to stay with when her mother was incarcerated, but her mom decided last minute for her to go with her grandparents." I told them.
