SInce coming to UA he found he wasn't the strongest, and that people didn't act like total dicks to each other because they could. Like he had.
When he was younger he had thought Izuku was looking down on him. Paired with the protective streak he had for the green haired idiot, he had wanted to crush the boy's dream of becoming a hero without a quirk. It started off because he didn't want his friend to die, but eventually it became a challenge to snuff the boy's spirits.
Every time Deku had come into class with a limp from the day before, or his head lowered and eyes downcast, Bakugou had fet something pang in his heart. He had shoved it down until it was non existent.
The torture had escalated over the years, and he knew telling Izuku to kill himself had been a mistake. He had regretted it immediately afterwards. Watching the light die from Deku's eyes had made him forget that he had hated the boy for no reason his whole life. But he had walked away without checking on his past childhood friend.
What sort of person did that make him?
That he featured in Izuku's nightmares, that he had told an aspiring hero to kill himself, that he had hurt and scared a boy so badly it wouldn't ever heal. Both mentally and emotionally.
He was a disgrace.
Tears trickled down his checks, salty to the taste and leaving a wet trail behind.
Thank goodness, he was in his own room.
Most people had gone to the common room to talk over a plan to help Izuku, but Bakugou didn't think he could pretend to be ok right now.
Maybe he should tell Aizawa?
Aizawa had walked off with Izuku in his arms, but Bakugou wasn't sure if the boy would open up about his past, because Bakugou was bad, but he hadn't been the reason Izuku's flinching habit had started. That at least wasn't his fault.
Although, it worsening was.
Bakugou just thanked the gods that Deku's father was out of the picture.
He fell back onto his bed.
His hand reached under his pillow to reach the picture stored there and pulled it from its hiding place, a protective cover placed over it to keep it safe.
Bakugou and Izuku were grinning in the photo, both caught climbing a tree. They were about four, before Bakugou had gotten his quirk. It had been Izuku's idea, both scrambling to get up first, Izuku clasped Bakugou's hand, pulling him up the tree, since his nimble body had raced up it first.
The picture always brought back good memories of them both.
Bakugou had ruined their relationship.
He would now do anything to fix it.
**********
Izuku woke up slowly, tired from all the emotional turmoil he had experienced last night. Warm arms were wrapped around him, face smushed into a hard chest in soft clothes.
Had he fallen asleep on Todoroki again?
All at once the events from the night before flooded through his mind, encompassing his entire body in a tight cloud of worry and fear. He didn't know what to expect. He remembered Aizawa's words from the night before, yet he was scared that he would get up and it would all be some sort of sick joke they had decided to play on him.
Maybe he could get up and leave without Aizawa-sensei noticing...
He moved slightly, listening to the breathing of his teacher above him, ensuring it didn't change to light and breathy. That would mean he was waking up. And if he was faced with disappointment one more time towards his feelings, he didn't know how he would react.
