Gene Ress
Thirty-Four

The sound of Gene's alarm went off just seconds before she opened her eyes. Work was here yet again, nudging at her to get out of bed immediately because she had a unfinished case to solve. Just two days after her amazing date with Riley the virus was finally broadcast-ed all over the news and state as a threat to anyone and everyone that ever got close to someone who was in-fact sick. It was chaotic and hard now that everyone knew. Neighbors and citizens were practically loosing their minds the moment it was mentioned by robbing and killing just hours after the announcement. The sight scene of stores and shops being burned down frightened Gene because no one was safe, not even the ones that stood clean from the sickness. If you ever wanted to stay safe from the sick, you'd have to make a scene look as if their were no survivors like burning down a store. No one gave a damn about anything anymore, not even the cries of a baby or the screams of a pregnant woman giving birth on the side of a sidewalk could stop a clean man from throwing you into the sickening crowd that followed after. Rally's had begun, shootings around the neighborhood were required by gangs nearby all while Roll-calls and housing management were being taken from anyone that disobeyed the curfew. 11pm was the time you had to be inside your home unless you worked in a hospital or worked anywhere valuable enough to withstand being shot to death by soldiers if they got the thought that you were sick. At this point the announcement had affected everyone much worse than the sickness itself, at times like these Gene had wished she had kept her mouth shut the second she insisted on letting the entire nation know about a deadly virus going around.

Slowly but actively Gene begins her day with morning routines and the cook of breakfast for the first time in years unexpectedly played a roll in this chaotic break-out. It wasn't all bad Gene thought, well for her it wasn't. For the first time she was finally able to wake up on time energized and ready to start her morning. Usually she would've had a tempting schedule with different times every second she turned which caused her lack of sleep, a un-balanced breakfast, lunch and dinner every single time. Now that the entire nation had a curfew to abide against a clear repetitive schedule was given to her the day it all happened.

Savoring her last bite just about left Gene hungry for more toast and bacon. A run every morning would burn these fat calories away, a fresh shower back home would replenish her mind and body with energy while the outfit she would pick out for the day would either set a professional look or a intimidating one. This time she went with the intimidating look.

Iron pressed jeans, a buttoned up dark blue blouse exposed her silky smooth neck from the two buttons she let loose on the satin reveal. Every pair of jeans she ever bought hugged her thighs in all the right ways because of her hourglass form. This time she wore her sandals openly because of the hours she knew she'd be working today. 27 hours was given to her for the last 2 days permanently. Gene was drained and aching in every place she thought she couldn't possibly ache in, turns out she was wrong.

Fixing her rear view mirror for the 5th time this week was anything but good for Gene. She remembered a time when she didn't have to drive to work during the day, beep at cars continuously for 30 whole minutes or stop at numerous stop lights every 3 damn minutes. The time she'd normally go to work was during the morning and last the entire night, now she worked 2 days every other day normally as if she was a Robot. Like it was said before Gene wished she had kept her mouth shut then she wouldn't be in this predicament she called The Hell Of Work. The sound of her phone going off for the 3rd time in just a span of 15 minutes was driving Gene insane. She knew she was 3 minutes late to work today, even more late than she ever been but that didn't mean blow up her phone and scold her for it. Was she not allowed to be a few minutes late? Did they not see the traffic the entire state was going through at the moment. Quickly she turned the music down and searched for her phone in her book bag while she waited at one long over-lasting light that should've changed seconds ago. After finding it deep within the pockets of her bag she answers " This is Gene Ress, Who's speaking?" She questions the caller with an annoyed tone. "Riley Greenfield, Did I call at the wrong time?" Riley questions worriedly. "No not at all. I'm sorry I thought you were someone else, it's been a very long week for me" Gene explains. "I can't even imagine how it must be going" Riley states. "I wish I could tell you half of it but I am afraid that what I explain won't even be the just of it" Gene tells. " After the announcement things kind of went crazy, my shop almost got burned down along with my bike so... as of right now I'm resting at home until I find a way to replace the items that were damaged in the fire" Riley explains. "Fuck. I am so sorry Riley, I really wish their was something I could do" Gene informs. "Don't apologize, I'm working on getting my shop back up and running, believe me cars are lining up down my block as we speak. I can't let a little fire stop me from giving the citizens a running car to work or out of the city completely" Riley mentions. "You are the best in town they say" Gene claims. "The admiration is appreciated but, believe me when I say this, Everyday is a struggling task to make that statement come true" Riley explains. "Riley Greenfield their isn't a day you don't work as hard to prove that statement right" Gene figures. "I am moved by the compliment, Maybe sometime this week if people aren't trying to burn my bike or shop down again then I will be over by your hospital in Due time" Riley states. "That saying is much easier said than done, the hospital is guarded by the presidents men. It's chaotic since the announcement so their isn't a way for anyone to enter" Gene explains. "Who said I'd be entering through the front or back?" Riley questions sneakily. "What is your plan to get inside if not through the front or the back?" Gene questions curiously. "I'm sure I'll find a way, I always do" Riley informs. "You never fail me when your dedicated, I guess I'll be seeing you soon" Gene agreed. Finally after 10 whole minutes the light finally turned green which abruptly forced her off the phone with Riley so that she could pay attention to the road. At times like these any accident or crime scene murder could happen just by the unfocused eyesight to any driver. It wasn't safe anymore and probably won't ever be again.
