Josh is going to spend the day with me today. I had eggs, bacon, and orange juice for breakfast. I showered and put on black leggings, a gray sweater, and ankle boots. I brushed my hair. I put on mint lip balm and waited for Josh. The doorbell rang. I opened the door and Josh planted a kiss on my lips. "I missed you so much," he sighed. "Aw I missed you too. What do you have planned?" I asked. "We're going to go apple picking, do some baking, and go out for a nice dinner," Josh informed me. "That sounds lovely," I smiled. We got in his car and drove to a local apple orchard.
The cobblestone paths were covered in red, orange, and yellow leaves. Josh and I linked our arms together as we walked to the ticket booth. Josh paid for our admission and picked up a basket to put the apples inside. We found the apple orchard section that we were allowed to use. "This is my first time going apple picking," I told Josh. "You are going to love it. My family loves to go apple picking at least twice during the fall," he replied. We spent a couple hours gathering apples until our basket was completely filled. A gush of wind made tons of leaves fall around us. A leaf that was shaped like a heart fell between us. It was a strange sensation. Josh and I smiled at each other and kissed. The natural aroma of apples and cinnamon surrounded us. Josh raked the leaves into a giant leaf pile. We backed up a few feet from it. "1-2-3," Josh said and we sprinted to the leaf pile and jumped into it. Josh sneaked his arms around my waist and began tickling me. I laughed and melted into his arms. We stayed like this for a few minutes before Josh got up and offered me a hand. I took it and pulled myself up. We packed up our apples and drove to his house.
Josh's parents were at work and Melanie was watching TV. Josh pulled out an apple pie recipe. "This is my mom's famous recipe. Anybody that tries it will be begging for the recipe," he bragged. "Let's get baking then," I replied. Josh made the dough while I cleaned and chopped up the apples. We layed the dough at the bottom of the pie pan. I made the apple pie filling and poured it on top of the crust. Josh put on the top crust. We put it in the oven. The anticipation of warm apple pie kept us close to the kitchen. Josh made us his famous grilled cheese and vegetable soup for lunch. This is definitely one of my favorite fall and winter meals. It gives you a feeling of warm comfort and satisfaction.
When the apple pie was done, Josh pulled it out of the oven. We let it cool slightly before cutting three slices. Melanie insisted on having vanilla ice cream on top so we generously obliged. I took a bite of the pie. "This is amazing," I exclaimed. "What can I say, my mom's a caterer," Josh smiled. We savored every bite of the apple pie. I made sure that I got a copy of the recipe.
Josh and I spent the afternoon playing with Melanie. We played a few games of hide and seek, twister, and had fun making a giant fort out of pillows, blankets, and chairs. At 6:30, Josh and I went out to dinner at an Italian restaurant. We each ordered chicken parmesan and split the double chocolate cake. For someone who loves chocolate, it is paradise.
When we were finished eating, Josh drove me home. "Are you going back to work tomorrow?" he asked. "I am but I'm only allowed to be in the tower," I answered sadly. "It's important that you don't push yourself too hard. You had a major surgery. At least you can be back at Bondi," Josh reminded me. "That is true. I just feel so disguested with myself that I can't exercise," I replied. "Jennifer, you're gorgeous in every way possible. You would look great even if you didn't exercise. I know it's hard for you because you love being active but you just have to do what's best for you," Josh said gently. I rested my head on his shoulder. "Alright," I sighed. Josh put his arms around me and kissed the top of my head. "I should get going. I'll have to wake up at 6:00," I told him. "That's rough. Have a nice day tomorrow and remember what I told you," Josh replied. "I will," I smiled. I put my arms around his neck and we kissed.
I let myself into the house. It was dark inside. I turned on the lights and saw that there was a message on the answering machine. I pressed the play button. "It's me. I'm just calling to say that a few of the boys and I are going to the Bucket List for a drink. I don't know when I'll be back. Set your alarm for 6:00. See you in the morning," said Bisho's voice. I took a shower so I wouldn't have to wake up early. I made sure that there were no tangles left in my hair when I brushed it. I spent some time watching a Whose Line Is It Anway episode while I was curled up under a blanket. When I got tired, I put on my favorite pajamas and brushed me teeth. I set my alarm and went to bed.
