Your fiance breaks your heart, and Dis and Thorin will not let that injustice go without punishment.

Dís lifted her head up from the sock she had been knitting when a knock sounded on her door. She placed her work down and went to open the door, only to meet red and teary eyes of you.
"Y/n, what on earth has happened?" She let you in, and you walked to her bed, sat down, and started to cry, the despair clear in your face. She hurried to you, sitting down on the bed.
"What happened?" She asked, and you managed to mumble in a broken tone in between your sobs.
"H-He broke our engagement." Dís' heart grew cold. Breaking an engagement was almost unheard of in dwarven culture.
"Why?" Dís asked, and you let out a louder cry.
"He told me he never truly loved me! He said he only chose me so he could meet Thorin." Dís felt anger rise in her stomach. She had never liked your fiancé, but she never would have thought he could be tris cruel.
"Now everyone will think that I cheated on him! And I will never find anyone again, I'll be lonely for the rest of my life." You wailed, hiccuping and drying your cheeks with your sleeve.

New tears followed the ones you just wiped away, and Dís shook her head sternly.
"Thorin will not let that happen." Dís knew Thorin would be secretly happy that your engagement had been broken, he had loved you since you were small, but he had kept his emotions hidden when it seemed you had found another one. Dís could also only imagine how furious Thorin would be when he learned how your soon-to-be husband had left you in such a despicable way.
"He can't do anything." You sniffed, trying to reign in your tears.
"Honey, he is the king. There are only a few this he cannot do."

It took Dís a good while to calm you down. When you were done crying, you were so exhausted that you almost immediately fell asleep on her bed. She left you a note, explaining where she had went, and then she took off in search of her brother. After asking around for a while, she learned that he was in the hall he held most of his meetings, and she hurried to the doors. Two guards were standing in front of the doors, and when she approached, they bowed to her.
"Lady Dís." She had made it very clear that she would not be called a princess.
"I need to talk with my brother." The two looked uneasy.
"He is in a meeting." Dís waved her hand.
"Their matters can wait, mine cannot." She pressed, and the two guards had no other choice than to let her in. Everyone knew that you'd better listen to the king's sister. They opened the doors to her, and she entered the room, giving them a small nod in appreciation.

Thorin was quite surprised when the door opened in the middle of his meeting and Dís walked in.
"I need to talk to you." She stared simply, ignoring that half of Thorin's counselors were looking at her in anger and the other half in astonishment.
"Can it w-"
"It can not wait. I have to talk to you, now." Dís insisted, and Thorin could see she was serious.
"Everyone out. Balin, Dwalin, you can stay. Everyone else out." The counselors excited the room briskly, leaving Dís alone with the Fundin brothers and Thorin.
"What is so important that you could not wait until my meeting was over?" Thorin asked, keeping his tone light. He knew better than to get angry with his sister. That would not end well. For him.
"It's Y/N." She stated, and Thorin felt his heart jump at the mention of your name. He tried to appear as collected a possible when in reality his insides were twirling in all kinds of directions.

"Her fiancé broke off their engagement." Dís wasn't one to go dancing around matters.
"What?" Thorin was in shock. You weren't engaged anymore? He actually had a chance? But his happiness soon turned to anger when he heard Balin speak.
"He broke it off? But the wedding was supposed to be in mere week's time!" His tone was shocked, his brows deeply furrowed. Dwalin crosses his arms, his eyebrows slightly furrowed as he turned to face Dís with an uncomfortable look.
"Engagements aren't broken often or without a cause. Did she-" He didn't get to the end of his sentence before Dís jumped up and hissed, her blue eyes were on fire. If looks could kill, the dwarf would have been dead and buried already.
"No! You know Y/N! Would she do something like that? He loved that dwarf with all her heart! And what did he do?" Dís waved her arms frantically, trying to contain her anger and not to storm off to kill your fiancé, or rather, ex-fiancé.
"He broke her heart, telling her that the only reason he was with her was that he wanted to meet Thorin! It took me all night to calm her down after she stormed into my room late in the evening!" Dís took a deep breath, fighting to calm down. Next to her, Thorin was seething with anger. How could anyone do that to you? You were too kind-hearted to feel this kind of pain.

Silence rang in the room until Thorin turned to his sister, voicing the question everyone was thinking.
"Where is she now?" He needed to see you. He needed to apologize. Even if he hadn't done anything, but you deserved an apology from someone.
"In my room." Dís nodded to the door.
"Go talk to her. We'll try and figure out what to do with the wedding coming up." She sighed and Thorin was out of the door before she could properly finish her sentence. He practically ran through the mountain, not stopping to greet anyone or talk with the guards. He only had one goal.

You were laying in a tight ball in the same spot you had fallen asleep in when you had been too tired to cry anymore. A soft knock from the door sounded, and you wrapped your hands around yourself tighter. Thinking it was Dís, you allowed them to enter. It was a suprise to you when it was not Dís' voice that sounded from the door.
"Y/N?" You opened your eyes to see Thorin standing in the doorway, and you slowly pushed yourself up meeting his blue eyes with your still red-rimmed ones.
"Thorin? What are you doing here?" Your voice was still hoarse from crying most of the night, and Thorin's heart squeezed uncomfortably at the sound of your voice. It was so beaten down and depressed.
"Dís told me what happened. I wanted to see you." You wrung the blanket in your hands, tears returning your eyes as the memory returned to your mind.
"Oh." You couldn't think of anything to say. The scene of him shoving you away and yelling that he didn't love, that he never loved you was playing over and over in your head.

A fresh set of tears escaped your eyes, making them sting, and Thorin hurried next to you on the bed, taking your hands in his, shivering as he felt how they cold they were.
"Oh, Y/N, I'm so sorry." You leaned into his chest, placing your head on his shoulder, surprising him.
"You don't need to apologize." You sniffed against him, enjoying the warmth and closeness of your friend.
"Someone has to. And since that ... dwarf won't do it, I will." He stopped himself from using a very unflattering word right before it escaped his mouth. You sighed sadly and buried yourself deeper into his chest.

Later that evening, Thorin left you with Dís and your tea and walked straight to your fiancé's room. He had been burning to do this ever since Dís had told him what had happened. He knocked two sharp knocks on the heavy wooden door and came face to face with your fiancé as the door swung open.
"King Thorin, what an unexpected suprise! Please, come in." The dwarf was beaming, and Thorin followed him inside, even if would have rather swung his fist into the dwarf's face. But he had promised you that neither he or a member of his guard would hurt the dwarf, he had come up with another plan.
"What brings you here? I could-" Thorin cut the dwarf off, voice cold. He had hated the dwarf since the day you introduced them. But the times when he had to just plaster a fake smile on his face and listen to his obviously fake stories were over.
"You are banished from Erebor by the threat of death." Your fiance's eyes widened in suprise for a faint moment but it was soon replaced by a cold, unreadable gaze.
"On what charges? Y/N will be so distraught when I tell her we must leave the kingdom she loves so much. " Thorin felt a rage burning inside him, and he squeezed his hands into fists, trying hard not to hit the arrogant dwarf in front of him.
"How dare you even say her name?" Thorin hissed, and a faint hint of fear was visible in the dwarf's eye for the first time.
"I don't understand-"
"You know exactly what I am talking about. You broke your engagement with Y/N, telling her that you didn't love her and that you only were with her to get close to me." Every syllable he spoke was laced with venom, and the dwarf's shoulders slumped slightly.
"I- I." Thorin didn't give the dwarf a reason to explain.
"I want you out of this kingdom by sundown. If you show your face here after that, my guards can take your life. I will write to Dain in the Iron mountains, he will not take you in either."
"I deserve a fair trial-" Thorin huffed.
"You just had one. Dwalin, make sure he is out of here by sundown." The gruff guard nodded and stood in the doorway as Thorin walked away.

As he rounded the corner, he leaned into it and released a long, deep breath. The look on the dwarf's face had been priceless when he realized that Thorin knew exactly what he had said to you. He allowed a satisfied smile to make a way to his face as he pushed himself off the wall, walking to deliver the good news for you. The dwarf would never bother you again. You wouldn't have to think about the rumors surrounding you. the only rumor going around would be the one of your fiancé's banishment. And when the time was right, when you had recovered from your broken heart, he would ask for your hand. He wasn't about to let you slip away the second time.

I didn't even remember I had this draft unfinished! But it was nice and I had the inspiration to finish it, so here it is.
