*1 month later*
Alec stumbled on his feet, trying to catch his balance while running towards Magnus' loft, it's their one-month anniversary, and they decided to meet at Magnus' loft at six in the evening, then decide further what they wanted to do. Alec looked at the time and cursed himself, it was seven thirty, one and a half hours late, just great. He was worried what Magnus would be thinking. He took the phone from his pocket to check if Magnus had replied to his messages or calls. Nothing. 'Damn it!' he thought.
Things were going great till now, nothing like he had with Samuel, this, with Magnus, it always felt different to him, something he couldn't put his fingers on, but it was different in good ways. And somewhere inside him, he was scared, scared that it shouldn't end up like it did with Samuel, scared to lose what he finally had, scared to lose Magnus, he knew it was too soon, but somewhere he knew that it's love, and he didn't want to confess it.
When he was about to leave the institute, his siblings attacked him and wanted to tag along for patrolling, it took time to convince them that they were not needed. They bickered for some time but eventually agreed, finally leaving him alone. When he reached the metro, he realized he missed the train and the next one was going to arrive after an hour, so he left the metro and tried finding a cab, only then realizing that he didn't have enough mundane money with him, so here he was running towards his boyfriend's house using his speed rune.
He screeched to a stop when he finally reached Magnus' loft, panting heavily. He rang the doorbell without stopping for a second praying to the angels that Magnus wasn't mad. He sighed with relief when the door opened and he quickly ran in, realising that his boyfriend was lying on his couch peacefully.
"Magnus, I'm so-"
"Seriously, Alexander! Did you want to give me a headache with that stupid noise or did you want to break the doorbell!" He yelled.
"Sorry." He whispered, looking down at the floor, fidgeting with his jacket, trying to pull back the stupid tears forming in his eyes.
Magnus looked up at the shadowhunter, he instantly melted seeing the look on his face. 'Demons below, why is he so cute!' he thought. He got up and walked towards his 'boyfriend', tiptoed, and pecked him on the lips. He saw how his eyes lit up and lifted from the floor to meet his own, he then sighed.
"I'm sorry for yelling, Alexander, but my patience was wearing off. I've been waiting for you for one and a half hours. Didn't mean to take it out on you."
"I.. t..the.. messages, I.. I've..-"
"I saw, but that won't change the fact that I was waiting. Never mind now, at least finally you're here."
"I.. I'm sorry!"
"It's okay, and calm down, sweetheart. Drinks?"
Alec took a deep breath, then nodded. No matter how hard he tries, the impact that his previous abusive relationship left, always affects his relationship with Magnus. He always tries not to stutter and get scared when Magnus yells, even if it's for the smallest things or on someone else. He knows how stupid it is, but he's not able to get over it. The way Samuel used to treat him had left so many mental scars that it's not easy to heal them.
Magnus waved his fingers and summoned two whiskey sour, handing one to Alec, knowing that he needed it. Even though it's been a month since they started dating, he knows so less about him, they talk, yes, but whenever it comes to Alec's past, he doesn't open up completely, telling him in bits and pieces, leaving him hanging with the answers he needs.
But what he does know that, that Samuel used to yell at him at the smallest of things, and when Alec used to retort, he used to beat or rape him, leaving him to sort himself up, all alone. He found out about this when, once, Alec came to him for help after a mission, as he was just a block away, his one arm badly injured, he asked him to lay on the couch and while healing him he was squirming a lot, so he yelled at him to stay still, he didn't even shout at him that loudly but Alec started to stutter, apologize and cry instantly, asking him not to beat him for not listening. When he was done with healing him, he asked about the reaction, and Alec told him how Samuel used to treat him.
