Riley Greenfield
Twenty-Seven

After a unexpected conversation with Gene, Riley sure as hell didn't know what to think once the call ended. Half of her brain was telling her to forgive Gene because truthfully they weren't really together, So if Gene ever decided that she wanted to be with someone else other than her then she had the right to do so. Of course Riley's heart would be broken and Gene... well she obviously wouldn't give a damn. Riley threw her head back regretfully thinking about that very possibility. She didn't want to think that way but what other choice did she have? Gene wasn't really giving her much hints here. If anything she was giving the wrong ones, hints that Riley shouldn't even have roaming around in her distorted brain.

2 days had passed since the conversation which gave Riley enough time to actually think about what she wanted to do. Did she want to continue what her and Gene created? Or did she want to tarnish it for the sake of her heart? Shouldn't she want to protect her heart right? Sadly Riley just couldn't make a decision as big as that one.. what if.. Gene stayed around and made things work instead of ruining their chances every single time it became good. Riley told herself she couldn't make a heavy decision like that for her own well-being without knowing for sure that Gene was completely out of it because if she wasn't.. then Gene would be the one crushed.

A nice cold drink at the bar was what Riley needed this night. Like all the others this time she came for two instead of one. Women all around were beaming the place with aroma of sex and company. Riley noticed far too many women begging for attention tonight but instead she blew them off and headed home. As fun as sex with another woman sounded Riley couldn't accept. Gene occupied her mind in ways no other woman could, because of that the thought of being with another woman disappointed her; she refused to become what Gene almost did, A heartbreaker.

Carefully Riley pulled into her parking lot and cutt the engine off to her bike. Quietly she rested her head on the bike handles while nodding her head from side to side as if tonight was mistake. The musk of cold air being slapped against her face chilled down her spine forcing her to run inside. It was just too cold to be outside sulking for whatever reason it was.

Late night phone calls with customers and co-workers wasn't really Riley's plan tonight. Commonly she'd have a nice cold glass of water right before bed from all the drinking she would've downed but Statistically it wasn't uncommon for customers or co-workers to call her late at night. Normally she took the bothersome calls as acceptance to responsibility since she was the boss. "Riley Greenfield speaking" Answering again for the 47th time tonight was really killing Riley's sleeping schedule. At a rate like this Riley wasn't so sure she'd get any sleep before work which to her concern was in the next 5 hours. Maybe she should call off for today just to give herself the relaxation she desired. Anything would be better than sitting in her office chair all day hoping that someone, anyone would give her the reason to call off work. Mentally cursing her life with restless nights right about now angered her. All she needed was those 5 hours and she'd be just fine for the day, but no; she just couldn't have it.

Luckily no one called after the 50th phone call finally rewarding her with 4 hours of sleep. It wasn't much which Riley knew, nevertheless though; it was way better than nothing so she accepted it as a appreciated token from reality. Sometimes Riley didn't even get 2 days of sleep from work. At times she'd have to work overtime making sure everything stayed up to date for new arrivals. New orders had to be placed alongside new request from billionaires to anxious travelers. Being a mechanical engineer was overwhelming, Honestly without doubt being the only mechanical engineer around was back breaking and beyond stressful. No one knew the levels of stress she had to go through or the times she had to stay behind when she know she had work just hours ahead. Riley was an overachiever as a curse and gift to society which made her the best at what she did.
