Cherry's POV
"Nice one Cherry!" Fred laughs in his typical stoner laugh at my impression of Hiro when he's tired, to everyone's amusement. It's fine for me to do it - Hiro and Cass are out buying groceries so I won't get remonstrated by the sulky little boy tonight. Tadashi beside me laughs the most, his arm round mine and his cap low on my head from earlier when we were all rollerskating. I fell over a lot - I haven't been out much.
"Oh wait, wait, I got another one," I hold out my hands, clear my throat, then mimick Hiro's 'grand Duke' voice and say, "I can see to your point my fellow clever person, but unfortunately I do not give two stuffs about your yucky opinions.'"
Everyone including me bursts into laughter again. I look round at everybody laughing and smile widely, glad that I was the one causing it.
I, for once, am letting my guard down and have of late decided that now that I am Tadashi's girlfriend! I need to make more of an effort to fit in with his - our - friends. Plus, it was the summer holidays and I'd already gotten accepted so, what's the harm?Wasabi checks his watch, and his wide eyes widen considerably.
"Guys! We've gotta go! Look at the time, we all have to go back to our homes!" He stands up and rather unceremoniously shoves the rest of the shortcake slice in his mouth whilst gingerly nudging Gogo sitting down next to him to move. Bad idea: Gogo immediately bares her perfect teeth with wolfishly sharp incisors at him, and the large black man seems to shrink into a bulky mouse.
"We haven't got SFIT for a couple months, it's not like we have a stupid curfew."
Honey, still getting up and pulling Fred's arm to finish his sandwich and stop giving it to Bella the dog next to us, chuckles at our spiky friend.
"Gogo, calm down, you know he's right." She turns to Tadashi and I, now stood with me tugging on Bella's collar to not eat the rest of the sandwich. "Thanks for having us over for a film after rollerskating; I loved it! Such a good concept!"
I grin and nod. "I'd never seen it before, but Tadashi said I'd like it and sure enough," I look up at him and he smiles sweetly and leans down to kiss the top of my head, "he knows what I like."
Tadashi laughs at me. "Well that's because you've barely seen any films before - it's too easy to figure out what you like!"
I mock pout and he kisses the top of my head again, and I lean on him partially as we stand up and wave everyone goodbye and close the door behind them.Tadashi turns me so I'm opposite him, and leans down again to kiss me. Now learning how to be in a relationship and to give in to my rising instincts I wrap my arms lightly round his neck and walk us backwards so I can step up onto the stairs to kiss him without him coming all the way down to my level.
It's been a few weeks of Tadashi and I being properly together, but kissing still feels new and exciting.
I smile against his soft lips, soaking in my life: abandoned, raised by nobody in poverty, lived on the streets, now accepted into one of the most prestigious schools in San Fransokyo and girlfriend of an all-around intelligent cutie pie.
What an odd but delightful life.We stay kissing like that for a while, until Tadashi lets go of my lips for a minute to roll his neck to get out the cricks from leaning down so long. I laugh before rolling my own neck, and he smirks at me with a glint in his eye.
"What?" I ask, and he shrugs.
"It's just so funny," he comments, and bites his lip to prepare for possibly being hit, "you're so... short!"I gasp and let go of his neck to hit his shoulder lightly, jumping a little to meet it.
"I am not short! Tadashi Hamada, if you go and measure my height right now you would find that I am in fact just below average women's height, which just makes you abnormally tall!"
He feigns shock, hand over his heart, making me laugh again. Man, I wonder how much of this I've missed over the last decade of solitude.
"Miss Cherry, I can assure you I am not an abnormal height. I am almost completely sure it is you... who is a dwarf!"
I hit him again, getting onto the higher steps so I'm at Tadashi's height."Shut up!"
"No you!"
"Giant!"
"Midget!"
"Gulliver's Travels!"
"Muppet Babies!"My mouth falls open and I grin with my eyes wide, getting used to this playful joshing. "How dare you! How dare you! I don't even know what that means but I am offended! I'm normal, unlike you, you... giraffe!"
Tadashi laughs at my lame comeback - be fair, I haven't had much practice - and I hit him again. He pushes me a little and I waver on the steps before I cut all restraints loose and jump onto him. He staggers a bit, stepping backwards toward the door, and I lock my legs round his waist and grip his shoulders, feeling his hands holding me up safely by my thighs.
I lean into him, putting my lips next to his ear.
"Okay. So you're really tall. And I'm really short. But doesn't that make us a cute couple?"
I feel Tadashi's smile stretching until it's on my cheek. He turns his head slightly and plants a kiss right underneath my ear. I feel a tingle rush through me - I'm not used to this almost daily feeling yet - and I bite down on my lip.I sense his mouth moving a little from below my ear to it. I can hear him lick those soft lips, and I close my eyes and imagine them all over me like they were the first time we had sex.
"The cutest, I promise you."
