Chapter 6
I was surprised to that the caravan’s interior was sparkling clean; I had always been told that the gypsies were dirty people. The caravan was quite cozy and everything looked perfect and neat. There was a small dinette at the back of the caravan and I assumed it folded down into a bed. At the end corner of the caravan, there was another small single bed. In the roof of the caravan there was another bed, which I presumed was Dash’s. There was a small ladder leading up to it and from what I could see, there were a cluster of photos and other items up there. There was also a stove, sink, fridge and even a few cupboards that were squeezed into the small caravan.
I glanced over at Dash and realised he was staring down at my baby sister. She was just so beautiful. I looked up at Dash and noticed he was staring down at Sky as well.
“She’s absolutely gorgeous, hey?” Dash commented with a smile.
“Yes, she sure is,” I sighed happily and smiled up at Dash.
We locked eyes and Dash brought his soft hand to my face. He brushed a piece of hair away from my face and I closed my eyes in happiness. His arms wrapped around me protectively and I buried myself into him.
“I’m gonna miss you, Angel,” he said in a muffled tone.
“I feel like I’ve known you forever, even though it’s only been a few hours. Ive never met a girl like you,” he said lovingly, stroking my hair.
Did love at first sight truly exist? Dash was perfect and i never wanted to be away from him. I couldn’t put my thoughts into words so I just stayed silent and enjoyed the moment.
“Why do you have to leave, Angel?” he said sadly, pulling away from me.
I bit my lip and stared down at the floor. The truth was, I didn’t want to leave. I wanted to stay with the crazy gypsies, Dawn and especially Dash. But I didn’t want to be a bother.
“Come on,” I grab his hand and carefully picked up Sky.
My hand felt perfect entwined with his and he helped me down the caravan steps. We stood there outside and I realised it was now late afternoon. Within the space of a few hours, I had made an amazing, sweet friend that I knew that I would never forget.
“I’ll go say goodbye to your Mum,” I whispered and turned away from him with my eyes misting over slightly.
He bounced up beside me and I smiled.
“MAMI!” Dash yelled over the music.
Dawn turned around and beamed when she saw me and Sky.
“Mami, Angel has decided to leave now,” Dash said in a sad tone.
“What? No! You can’t leave now; Dash has taken a real fancy to you!” She said with a cheeky wink.
“Mami!” Dash said with a blush. He fancied me?
“I’m sorry Dawn, I have to go. Bye Dash, don’t forget me,” I said and leant onto my tippy toe, kissing him on the cheek.
I spun around and started walking very quickly and I heard Dash shouting my name. But it was too late; I was already lost in the crowd.

“Shh, Sky,” I whispered stroking her hair as she let out another loud wail.
I had been wandering around the tiny town for what seemed like days, but was only a few mere hours. It was now getting dark and it was way past dinnertime. Sky was in my arms and would not stop crying, I was seriously at breaking point. I did not know what to do and I don’t know how mothers survive caring for their kids. Well I guess my mother didn’t care for me, she got off easy.
As I walked around the main street, I had copped a lot of disapproving stares and snide remarks about Sky being my daughter. I just ignored them and kept walking.
There were loud shouts coming from ahead and I realised there was a fight going on outside of the town’s local pub. I didn’t want to get involved so I decided to turn in the other direction. My arms were growing numb from carrying Sky for so long, so I paused for a moment. The shouts form the pub was growing louder and I decided that I couldn’t just stand here. There were a few screams and I turned around quickly, clutching Sky.
A masked man put his hand over my mouth and raised a small knife to my throat. Sky was squished in between us and let out an annoyed wail.
“Shut the baby up or you will both die,” he threatened, keeping his voice low.
The man dragged us into a little alleyway and pushed me onto the floor.
“I said, SHUT THE BABY UP!” He shouted, bringing the knife to my face.
He playfully glided the blade over my left cheek and then onto my neck. I could see in the dim moonlight that he was wearing a ski mask and had a toothless grin. He was a big man and I knew he could easily kill Sky and I without any effort at all. I stroked Sky’s hair and her cries turned to a small whimper.
“Shhh, my darling,” I cooed to her and she laid content in my arms, silent.
I snuck a glance at the man and I realised he was counting a wad of bills and I realised he must have robbed someone.
Well, I would be no use to him as I had no money and no possessions on me. He noticed me staring at him and he turned to properly face me. He took out a bottle and forced up into my face.
“Drink it,” he ordered.
I tried to resist, but for the safety of Sky I decided just to drink it.
“Please don’t do anything to Sky,” I begged as he poured the liquid into mouth.
He snorted, and after a few moments I was unconscious.
