It was just a normal day. Or at least it should have been.

Mumbo was strolling through the shopping district, looking for the shulker box shop, when he caught notice of False. He waved, just to be friendly, and False waved back. When she walked past him, he noticed something... odd. More than odd actually.

Her shadow started to morph into another figure. It was a duplicate of False in shades of gray. It snapped its head up and stared straight at Mumbo with piercing red eyes.

Scared, he swiftly brought up his sword in case it came for him. "Mumbo?" False questioned, tilting her head slightly. The shadow copied her movement, though its face remained blank. "Is something wrong?"

"There's something behind you!" he exclaimed, pointing at the phantom figure. The hermit glanced behind her and looked back at Mumbo confused. "There's nothing there but my shadow," she said slowly. "Maybe you just saw the sun or something."

The noirette was about to argue back, but his friend was already moving on. The shadow stared at him and its face twisted into a wicked smile. "Fault," it whispered. False didn't seem to hear it.

Without hesitation, Mumbo rushed back to Grian's base. Right now, he really just needed someone to talk to.

He spiraled down the tall tower and landed in the concrete building, his movements clumsy and frantic. "Hey Mumbo!" Grian's familiar voice rang through his ears. "Whatcha doin' here?"

Mumbo whirled around to face his friend, but was met with a horrifying sight. His friend was fine yes, but a tall shadow loomed over him. It was a shadowy version of Grian and black wisps floated from it, its red eyes glaring at him. It smiled a twisted smile, revealing its glowing red mouth.

"Don't," it hissed. "Say a word."

Mumbo clapped his hands over his mouth and stumbled backwards towards the entrance. "I-I have to go," he stammered. Without another word, he rocketed through the air and headed to his base. The distant yells of his friend echoed through his ears, but Mumbo didn't turn around. Couldn't turn around. The only thought racing through his brain was;

What... was that?
