"Second to the king?"
"Second to the king?
"Because I'm second to the king"
The words kept on echoing in Persephone's mind as she sat down on the plush bed she shared with nancy; with Nancy being downstairs playing with the makeshift dolls, Persephone was all by herself left with her thoughts.
One blue eye- one black
It couldn't be a coincidence for a man as such; a knight at that to show up to "help" an impoverished town. Heck, the other soldiers wanted to leave but due to the harsh winds; their horses were in Mrs.Choko's what-left-barn, and the Knights staying in Mr.Richhound's home.
It wasn't much of them- about five or six and Mr.Richhound had about seven or eight rooms to spare.
The time was bleaky, per- usual; but an airy chill made Persephone feel sick to her stomach.
Something just wasn't right about that man.
"Seph you in there?" Bobby's voice seemed to pull her out of her madness, maybe she imagined him say it, maybe she misheard the knight.
Then again how could she when he was right in front of her?
"Seph?" Bobby called again, taking in Persephone's appearance who was sprawled on top of the kid's sized bed.
"Hmm" Persephone hummed, too lost in thought to properly acknowledge his presence.
Granny had already called it a day after she had cooked a hearty Christmas dinner for them all to eat.
As for gifts, somehow Granny was able to give everyone something while she got nothing.
Bobby got 5 new pairs of trousers and 6 shirts that fit him like it was supposed to, Nancy three dresses; Yvette a nightgown and her own mug and Persephone a Shakespearean classic 'Julius Ceasar'.
"I have a gift for you" Bobby pipped again, this seemed to peaked Persephone's interest as she sat up in response. Their Bobby was holding a necklace with a tiny diamond encrust within a small gold ball.
"It was my mother's my father gave it to her before he died. Then she gave it to me before she left- she always told me to give it to someone you hope will last forever-" Bobby held out his arms as he clasped it around Persephone's neck pushing away her thick twist.
"Bobby I can't take this, it was your mother-"
"But I want you to have it " Bobby's tone left no room for imagination and so as he left their Persephone sat more confused than before
