We climbed back into the car and headed back to the maternity home. We talked more about our childhood and our lives before we met eachother.
"So you fell out of the tree?" He asked holding in his laugh.
"Yes" I said making him laugh.
"Next time don't climb a tree even if you were helping a cat" he laughed at my silly childhood stories.
"The worst part is my brother climbed up after me, helped the cat down then fell out himself" I said making us both laugh.
He pulled over outside the maternity home and we got out of the car and entered the immaculate building.
"I'm going to check on Mrs James" I told him entering the maternity ward.
I walked onto the ward and smiled at Mrs James.
"How are we doing Mrs James?" I asked her.
"Good sister" she smiled at me pacing the floor when her waters suddenly broke.
"Very well apparently" I laughed with her. Timothy walked onto the ward reading his clipboard not looking at where she was going.
"Careful doctor we don't want you having an accident now do we?" I said grabbing his arms from behind and pulling him away from the puddle.
"No we don't sister" he laughed as I let go of him and held onto Mrs James's hands.
"Now please get a mop doctor whilst I help Mrs James away from this puddle and back into bed" I ordered him as I began slowly walking her back to her bed.
"Right away sister" he said walking quickly off the ward to the supply closet.
A few hours later
I held onto Mrs James's hand. She squeezed it tightly as another contraction washed over her.
She pushed hard and breathed heavily when it was over.
"Good girl" I smiled at her brushing her hair out of face.
"One more and we will have baby" Timothy smiled at her.
"You hear that one more push and this baby will be here so on this next contraction you push as hard as you can" I said to her. She nodded and panted. Then she pushed as hard as she could. The baby slid out into Timothy's hands. He cut the ambilical cord and wrapped the baby girl up warmly.
"Here we are Mrs James a very healthy baby girl" Timothy smiled handing her the little baby.
"Well done" I smiled at her.
"She's perfect sister" she smiled, a stray tear falling down her cheek.Half an hour later
I opened the curtain from around Mrs James.
"I didn't know that it would be that easy to feed her sister" she smiled at the now sleeping baby in her arms.
"Sometimes it is sometimes it isn't" I smiled taking a seat on the end of her bed.
"It's time to put her down now" I told her whilst she was staring down at the sleeping baby.
"I just can't stop looking at her" she smiled at me.
"Yeah, the first time you hold them and you see their bright eyes staring back at yours whilst they wrap their little hand around your finger" I smiled allowing the child to hold my finger.
"You sound like you know a lot about seeing baby's for the first time" she smiled at me.
"It's because I've been doing this job for too long" I said gently taking the child from her arms and walking over to place her in her crib. I gently stroked her head and headed out of the ward saying goodnight to all of the ladies.
"Need a lift?" Timothy asked from the doorway of his office.
"Yes please" I said sighing making him chuckle. I waited for him to return taking a seat in the abandoned lobby.
