She was never an ordinary woman some would say she was not even normal because not all were like her. Not everyone could be like her.
But, everyone breaks.
"It felt good, Ammi". Shariah said softly curling in her mother lap
"What did?". She asked smiling
"When he picked me from the ground and protected us like that". She replied innocently, "Is he our father?".
Her heart clenched.
"We need to sleep now we have an important day tomorrow". She said closing her eyes with her hand
He walked behind the two girls smiling to himself as he sees them talking among themselves while observing their surrounding. He remembers when he used to walk with her she would always do the same thing. She loved observing her surroundings and remembering every single detail talking non-stop. How is that they went from so much to nothing?.
"Shariah, look these look so sweet". Shaikhah said placing her head outside of the display sweet shop
"Can we just go?. Ammi will be worried". Shariah said
"I really want to eat one". Shaikhah said admiring the donut in front of her
"Which one?". He asked smiling at their shocked face
The little girls looked at him confused as he moves to stand beside them.
"I cannot eat any". Shaikhah said sadly
"Why not?". He asked not liking her sad face
"Because if I spend on this my lunch money will end". Shaikhah replied innocently
His face fell.
"Not when I buy them for you, right?". He suggested
"But, Ammi said not to take money from a stranger". Shaikhah said
"I am not a stranger. I will buy them". He said softly even when it hurts walking inside
He knows they followed behind him as he entered and he smiled to himself as he buys them to their heart and his heart content.
"You cannot just buy them things". She argued as he didn't even pay attention to her argument, "Are you listening?".
"Your bakery is pretty good, you know that?". He asked ignoring her fierce attitude
"I know that". She said puffing out
He grinned, "You know how to take compliment now".
"I know a lot of things". She said looking at her bills sighing
"What are you looking at?". He asked taking a step around her table
She hides the bills behind her back shaking her head, "Nothing".
He raised his eyebrows, "You are still a bad liar. What is it?".
"No, it's nothing". She said stubbornly
"It is something". He argued taking a step even closer ending all distance between them
Their breathing hitched.
It's been so long since they were this close to one another. There were so many feelings in their heart but their mouth remained sealed.
He snatched the paper from her hand after breaking from the spell her closeness always have on him. He frowned looking down at the numerous bills with the big amount until his heart stopped when he found hospital bills.
