summer is a curse

luke and calum did not talk for three weeks, well actually nineteen days but calum definitely was not keeping track. it seemed like whenever luke looked out the window, calum was right there. he was not complaining because calum was very handsome.

around four on the twentieth day, luke heard a knock at the door while he was cleaning the bathroom. quickly, he ran down the hallway, his bare feet hitting against the soft eggshell colored carpet. he opened the front door to see the boy with shaved hair, a smile on his face.

"calum, hi!" luke exclaimed before looking down at himself, realizing how he looked. he was wearing an raggedy t shirt from his old high school and bleach stained black jogger sweatpants.

"oh my god i am so sorry i look so gross, i was cleaning," he apologized, a blush coming to his face. this was only the second time he had talked to him and he was making a complete fool out of himself.

calum shook his head, looking down at the blond boy, "luke, it's not a big deal. i don't even think you look bad," he said, chuckling.

the blush on luke's cheeks just got more red. calum began to speak again, "so, i was thinking about how i really enjoyed talking to you awhile ago. i was wondering if you wanted to go for a walk later?"

luke smiled, nodding his head, "yeah, of course. how about you come back in like an hour so i can shower and change?"

calum nodded his head, waving to luke as he walked away from the front door. luke slowly closed the door, a wide smile on his face. he leaned against the door, looking up at the bumpy ceiling. he could not remember the last time he had been on a date. was this a date? he didn't know.

exactly one hour later, calum knocked on the door. luke was so jittery that he was basically waiting the entire time. he opened the door and they were in the same position they were earlier.

"ready?" calum asked. luke replied with a nod. luke closed the door behind him, not bothering to lock the door. he never locked the door, there was never a reason to. everyone around was so trustworthy.

"how do you like it so far? here i mean," luke asked as the walked on the sidewalk, their steps synchronized.

"it's pretty nice except it's really fucking hot. where i was living before it never got too hot. im not a fan of summer," calum rambled, taking in the scenery around him.

"why don't you like it?" luke asked innocently. he knew this was only the third time he had ever talked to him but there was just something so mysterious about him. he wanted to know as much as he could.

"summer is a curse. people tell you that you're supposed to be happy cause it's hot out. how can i be happy when i'm still expected to work nine to five every day? it's not grade school anymore, summer means nothing besides it's hot as balls," calum chuckled, looking back at luke.

before luke got a chance to respond, calum saw an ice cream truck. immediately, he grabbed luke's hand and dragged him over to the white truck with different pictures on it.

"what would you like?" calum said, still holding onto luke's hand. luke's cheeks were so red.

he could not think properly so he blurted out the first thing he thought of, "strawberry please."

the pale boy didn't know if he should let go of calum's hand or not, so he didn't let go. he listened to calum order. his voice was very smooth and calming.  the tan boy paid the man and let go of luke's hand to hand him his ice cream. both of them walked over to a picnic table and sat across from each other.

"can we play the question game?" luke asked shyly, causing calum to smile widely.

he nodded his head, "ask me anything, babe." as soon as the word babe left his plump lips, luke's cheeks were back to the dark red.

"okay so, when we first met you didn't tell me your last name. so what's your last name?" he asked.

calum thought for a second but knew he couldn't take too long or luke would be suspicious. "it's thompson," he said, not knowing why he picked that one. he had all the names in the world and that was the one he thought of? what an idiot.

luke smiled, licking the cold ice cream. "hm, how old are you?" calum raised an eyebrow as he asked the question.

"twenty two and you?"

"twenty six. luke, do you know how pretty you are?" he asked, reaching over and wiping some of the pink ice cream that was on his nose away with his thumb.

luke didn't know how to react. he wasn't used to the attention. he just looked down at the table.

it didn't take them long to finish their ice cream. they threw away the dirty napkins and began their walk back to the neighborhood.

they arrived sooner than they would have liked. luke sighed as he reached the door step. "so i'll see you again soon right?" he asked, puffing his lip out a bit.

calum chuckled at luke's pouting, nodding his head, "of course, i could never stay away from you," he responded, bringing luke's pale hand to his lips, gently kissing it.

"have a good night," calum whispered as he let go of luke's hand and began his way back to his house. luke went inside and began to close the door. just as he was about to shut it completely, he had a change of mind. he flung it open and stood in the frame.

"calum!" he yelled causing the older boy to turned around in his own front yard and turn his attention to him.

"do you want to come inside?"
