*Alec's POV*

The constant shaking of his shoulder made Alec grunt in anger as he roamed his hand over his bed, picked up the pillow, and covered his ears.

"Alec! Alec! Wake up, Alec!"

"Mmmhmm... let me sleep!"

"Wake up, big brother! It's already 10:30, come on! Wake up!"

"Go away Iz!" He exclaimed in a hoarse tone, followed by an unpleasant groan.

"What's going on?" Jace asked while walking into the room.

Izzy sighed and waved her hands towards Alec, and he shook his head. It was their almost every day's job to wake up their big brother. Alec was a heavy sleeper in spite of being a Shadowhunter, but whenever they went on missions like yesterday's, it was a mission for them to wake up their elder brother from sleep the next day.

"How long have you been trying?" Jace asked.

"15 minutes!" She stated.

"Then there's only one option left!" He cleared his throat before speaking again. "Alexander Gideon Lightwood! Wake up! Now! Or I will burn down your mini study room with your bow and quivers in them!" He said in his most harsh and evil tone possible.

"Seriously Jace!" Alec shot daggers at his brother as he slowly sat upright. "Do that, and I'll put Clary on night patrolling for a month."

"But it always works, doesn't it?" Jace grinned smugly and Izzy rolled her eyes, clearly fed up with the everyday banter.

"Get up, big brother! It won't be nice if we'll get late!"

"Late for what Iz?"

"Do you really not remember Alec?" Jace raised his brow.

"Remember what?" Alec asked, a deep frown creeping on his forehead.

Just as Jace was about to answer back, all their phones buzzed. Picking it up, except for Alec, they exchanged a look and turned towards their brother.

"Augustines' will be here at any moment, get ready as soon as you can big brother. Your presence is important, and don't say that you don't remember." She said with a stern expression.

"Au... Augustines?" Alec's chest tightened as he gazed between his siblings without a single blink. 'No! No, it couldn't be that day!' he thought as he kept staring at both the people, hoping that it wasn't that day he hated the most.

Jace let out a deep breath and pinched the bridge of his nose. "Alec, it's the fourth anniversary of Samuel Augustine's death. You were his main assigned trainer for two years, you have to be there for the ceremony, plus you're the Head of the Institute buddy! You know how it goes."

"Hey big brother, we know it's hard for you, you both became close friends in those years, you trained him to become the head of the institute, we all knew how ambitious he was, he was our friend too. It's hard for us as well, but we need to be in Alicante by Eleven Thirty AM. Augustines will be here at any moment now." She gave a tight-lipped smile and gently held Alec's hand.

'You don't know him the way I did.' Alec thought. Every year, this one day makes him the weakest. The day that he wanted to remove the existence of, doesn't want to face. He grabbed his sheets tightly in his fist, knuckles turning white as faint memories started flashing in front of his eyes.
