As soon as the bell rang for lunch, the students jumped up from their chairs and ran out of the door eagerly. Ms Stacey stopped Anne just before she followed the crowd.

"Um, Anne may I speak with you for a moment?" Ms Stacey said.

'Uh oh.' Anne thought. 'She probably noticed I wasn't paying attention today.'

   Anne was right.

"I know you've already memorized most of the material we cover in revision, but the school has rules that we both need to follow. As you know, there is a strict 'no texting in class allowed' policy, so I'm afraid I have to give you detention tomorrow."

Anne groaned inwardly but nodded and said "I'm ever so sorry Ms Stacey, and I promise it'll never happen again!"

"I hope it doesn't." Ms Stacey said. "You're one of my best students, and I want you to try to give your full attention to all the lessons. You may go to lunch now."

When Anne walked out of the classroom, she saw Gilbert casually leaning against the wall by the door. When he saw her he took a step forward and straightened up.

   "Hey." He said.

"Hey. Why'd you wait for me?" She asked, slightly confused.

"Oh, I uh, needed to give you your pencil back." He held it out to her.

When she took it their fingertips brushed for a second. He noticed her maroon colored nail polish was sightly chipped. Anne thought his hands were kind of soft.

'Wait, no that sounds weird.' She tried to erase that thought from her mind.

They both blushed a bit as she smiled and said "Thanks. For remembering."

They stood there for a few seconds, just looking into each other's blue and hazel eyes.

Anne quickly snapped out of it and looked down at her shoes awkwardly.

"Okay, sooo let's go to lunch..." She started walking down the hall.

Gilbert started walking alongside her, and they both glanced at each other at the same time and then quickly looked away.

Then Gilbert got a mischievous look in his eye.

"Race you to the cafeteria!" He called out as he sprinted past her.

"Hey, that's not fair, you got a head start, and you have longer legs than me!" Anne yelled as she started running after him.

"Not my fault you're so short!" He looked back with a teasing grin.

Anne glared, but they both started laughing as they kept on running down the hallway.

Just as Gilbert went round the corner, he crashed into a teacher and fell back down to the floor, scattering papers across the hall.

"What is the meaning of this, Mr Blythe?!" Mr Jeff, their teacher from last year, said furiously.

Anne heard the commotion and stopped short. She carried on walking slowly.

"I'm so sorry, Sir. It was an accident." Gilbert said as he got up off the floor, picking up the sheets of paper around him.

"Running in the halls is strictly prohibited!" Mr Jeff frowned.
