[Third Person Narrative POV]

Melody hadn't thought it could get worse. She'd been wrong.

Before she'd been miserable, but numb. Now she couldn't shut it out. Now there was endless pain suffocating her but she just wouldn't die. She wished she'd just die. Anything to stop it. Anything to save her from this. From her future.

They were supposed to kill her. If the vampires ever got her, they were supposed to kill her. That was her fate. Not this.

How could she be pr...

It should have been her decision. She'd been violated and now it wouldn't end. What Jack had done should have been enough. How could she recover from that? But now...now it was so much worse.

Now she couldn't just pretend it never happened. Now she couldn't distract herself. Now it would get worse and worse. Now the worst was in front of her instead of behind her.

How could he do this? Hadn't he been her friend? Hadn't he been a good person? Why? Why her? Why him? Why any of it?

Why hadn't Douglas just asked? Why did he assume the worst?

You ruined us.

Promise you won't ruin me.

You ruined us.

Those words haunted her. She heard them again and again. They told her it was her fault. That she should have done something. She shouldn't have forgiven Jack. She shouldn't have taken that drink. She shouldn't have trusted him. She shouldn't have done so much.

You ruined us.

She ruined everything. This was her fault. She should have known. She should have done anything. She was the white witch. She had been strong. No one could touch her.

And yet here she was. What had she done to deserve this? This was all her fault. She ruined everything.

She didn't know how long it had been. Weeks? Months?

It was hell.

Luckily for her, Benny and Wendy were absolutely useless when it came to caring for a pregnant woman. They had the books, but they lacked the ability to actually make her cooperate. They couldn't touch her. They couldn't talk to her.

Wendy begged and Melody actually felt bad sometimes. Rarely, but sometimes.

Benny threatened, but she knew he couldn't do anything. He was all talk.

One day, though she wasn't sure if it was day or night, Wendy fell asleep in her chair. The poor girl had been trying to take care of Melody and neglecting to take care of herself.

Benny was off feeding in a room upstairs.

It was a rare moment of calm for Melody. She was left alone, finally. All she wanted was to be left alone to wither. Eventually she'd die and none of it would be her problem anymore. They could take her, but they couldn't take this. Her weak magic wouldn't let them. A few times she tired to harness it, but it was just gone until someone touched her. She didn't understand it and she didn't really care much either. As long as it kept them from touching her, she could just die and there wasn't anything they could do about it.

Unfortunately, there was a new vampire on food duty. He was very young and very stupid.

He saw a thin woman with pretty white hair and decided he was feeling a certain kind of way. And after all he was a vampire. These were just humans. Just pets. They were there for the house to enjoy.
