Instead, she felt soft lips against her own, and the warm comforting feeling of a cloak around her shoulders.
As Deathbringer drew away, she opened her eyes.
He touched her cheek with his hand, brow creased thoughtfully.
"You did well." he said.
Glory felt her heart lighten with his words.
She wrapped her arms around his neck, leaned forwards and kissed him.
She felt her breath hitch as his arms encircled her waist, his cool fingers on her skin.
We shouldn't be doing this. She thought. We definitely shouldn't be doing this. Grandeur would kill us.
She kissed him harder. All the more reason to do it. Grandeur can't control my life.
"If Grandeur could see us she would bury me alive" Deathbringer said.
"Well she can't see us, can she? Now shut up"
" . . . as you wish."
Glory rested her back against a tree, letting the wind play with her hair.
Deathbringer sat next to her, sharpening a knife.
The gentle chirping of birds and the soft sound of thunder reached her ears. She frowned. No . . . not thunder . . .
"Deathbringer" Glory touched his hand. He looked at her.
"Do you hear that?" she asked.
He listened. "It sounds like a waterfall" he said.
Glory nodded and stood up. "Let's go see." she said.
A few minuets later, they both stood on the bank of a large pool of water, fed by the large waterfall above it.
Glory felt it's spray land in soft droplets on her skin.
She shrugged Deathbringers cloak from her shoulders, allowing her tattered dress to finally give way, and submerged her self, letting the cold water wash the sweat and dirt from her skin.
She came up and took a breath of air.
"Come on" she said to Deathbringer.
He looked at the water uncertainly, then behind them.
"I'm not so sure-"
"Oh don't be a stuffed shirt. It's not that cold."
"That's not where my concerns lie. We would be leaving ourselves open for attack like this."
Glory rolled her eyes and splashed him, soaking him to the skin.
He gasped and shook his head, shaking the water from his hair.
He looked at her, a mischievous grin on his face.
"You really shouldn't have done that."
He removed his shirt and a moment later, he too was submerged in water.
Glory turned around, looking for him.
Suddenly, she felt hands seize her by the waist. She gave a shrill shriek and a moment later, she was beneath the water.
She struggled to the surface, coughing and laughing.
Deathbringer emerged beside her, grinning.
