Her hatred for Pan was the cacophonous thunder of storms. At first, so loud and powerful that it drowned out everything else; the skies' unleashed fury was all she knew. The wrathful rain pounded mercilessly on her window panes as the forceful wind rattled her entire treehouse, the booming shaking her to her core. As the storm raged on though, the cracks of thunder never faded, yet they grew distant, as it does when one gets accustomed to the regular tremors of violence overhead.
But now, she could hear birds chirping outside. The delicate melody was the element that brought Adelina to her senses. The thunder had died down. Gradually or all at once, she did not know. She had not heeded it's retreat, so used to its presence that she had not thought to check if it was still there. Presently, the sky had cleared and the calm stillness had caught up with her, leaving her vastly underwhelmed. Where had the thunder gone?
She'd been in the training clearing at the moment of the realization, supervising the newbies' hand to hand combat. Her attention was drawn to Pan's arrival. He spotted her and, naturally, without giving it a second's thought, she smiled upon his approach.
"What's gotten you in such a good mood this afternoon?" he asked suspiciously as he walked up to her.
The second in command's heartbeat faltered as she grasped the implications of her subconscious act. "Uh, nothing much," she said as casually as she could, rubbing the back of her neck. Heat rolled off her skin in waves. "The boys have been practicing really well today, some are really starting to make serious progress."
Pan nodded, oblivious to her cover up. "I'm pleased to hear that, I'd started fearing that they would never improve and that we'd be stuck with incompetent children for eternity."
Silence settled between them as they watched Clayton absolutely demolish his opponent, tackling him to the ground with brute force and pinning the helpless boy there. Out of all her pupils, Clayton was the one she was proudest of; he was the best fighter of the lot by far, yet he always remained kind and helpful - a fresh change from the tortured and broody lost boys of Neverland.
Once his adversary had admitted defeat, Clayton released him and held out a hand to help him to his feet. Looking around as he did so, he saw that Adelina was watching him and grinned broadly, winking at her.
Pan let out a sharp breath, irritated, causing her focus to slip back to her leader. "As much as I enjoy seeing you socialize with the lost boys," he said, his tone indicating that he did anything but, "I did come here for a reason."
"Which is?"
In typical Pan fashion, he didn't directly answer her question. Instead, he cocked his head to the side in invitation. "Follow me."
The second in command trailed behind her leader as he guided her out of the clearing, wondering what could possibly be waiting for her. As they drew underneath the shade of the trees, the air turned considerably cooler, making Adelina wrap her cloak more tightly around herself. She wished that winter would be over already, she was quite keen to rid herself of the cumbersome thick clothes necessary to her warmth.
Pan glanced over his shoulder."You don't have to walk behind me, I won't bite." He paused his gait, giving her an instant to catch up.
Adelina wanted to object, given his history there was a high possibility of him doing much worse than biting, yet she refrained. Walking besides him, even in silence, was rather enjoyable. Again, she wondered where her hatred had dissipated off to.
