Chapter 28

                                    

                                          
Goldenstreak woke to a sharp pain. It had been a moon since she had moved into the nursery and her belly had swollen. Goldenstreak felt another jolt of pain and moaned. More jolts of pain followed causing Goldenstreak to wail. She could hear rustling and could smell Acornfur and Sunshimmer. They came in with herbs.
                          
"Here, eat these." Goldenstreak was given herbs, she could smell borage and raspberry leaves. Goldenstreak forced herself to eat them. Goldenstreak wailed again and Acornfur put a stick in her mouth. Goldenstreak bit into the stick as jolts of pain were sent up her body. Then the pain stopped. Goldenstreak looked around and saw three little kits near the curve of her belly. Goldenstreak instinctively began to lick them to keep them warm. Acornfur and Sunshimmer helped her. Then they placed the kits against her belly. Goldenstreak purred softly. 
                          
There was rustling in the entrance again and Duskpatch, Leopardclaw, and Shininglight came in. They began to purr when they saw Goldenstreak's kits. 
                          
"What have you named them?" Leopardclaw whispered. Goldenstreak observed her kits. There was a brown tom, a ginger she-cat with white patches and green eyes, and a white she-cat with golden paws and blue eyes.
                          
"What of I name the tom and you name the she-cats?" Duskpatch suggested. Goldenstreak nodded.
                          
"How about Pinekit for the tom?" Duskpatch said. Goldenstreak nodded.
                          
"I like Amberkit for the ginger and white patched kit and Brightkit for the white kit with golden paws." Goldenstreak purred. Duskpatch nodded and rubbed against her. He leaned over and licked the kits. Goldenstreak purred softly. She slowly closed her eyes.

Goldenstreak blinked. She could see the forest she used to train in and immediately became suspicious. There was a glowing coming from a pool. Goldenstreak got closer and realized there were three cats siting by the pool. All of them were jet black, two of them had shining green eyes and one of them had glowing blue eyes. Goldenstreak realized it was Raventhorn. Goldenstreak looked into the pool and saw her kits, next to her own belly, she was seeing herself! The two green eyed cats smirked and walked onto the pool. Goldenstreak was amazed when she saw they were standing on water. They walked closer and closer to her kits.
                          
"Kill them!" Came the silky hiss of Raventhorn. Goldenstreak yowled and ran forward but the two green eyed cats had disappeared into he water. Goldenstreak ran into it. He water swirled her paws and dragged her deeper. Soon Goldenstreak couldn't touch the bottom. She paddled but the mysterious current dragged her to the center of the pool. Goldenstreak took one last breath and looked around. She saw Raventhorn smirking at her. Then Goldenstreak went under the waves.

Goldenstreak woke up panting. Her heart was beating quickly. She was still in the nursery. Goldenstreak sniffed each kit but they were fine. Duskpatch was sleeping next to her. Goldenstreak sighed and cuddled closer to Duskpatch.
