"Hey, baby," you smiled at Alex as he collapsed onto the bed next to you. "Tired much?"
"Yeah," he mumbled, face squished into the pillow.
"Well it's your turn to choose the film," you pushed your laptop towards him.
"Just choose any Disney film," he groaned while rolling over onto his back.
"You can't be serious."
"What? I like Disney films," he rubbed his eyes. "Don't you?"
"No, not really," you sighed and Alex shot up.
"What do you mean, 'no, not really'?"
"I mean that I don't like Disney films."
"But why?" he whined, tugging on your sleeve.
"They all end with the girl getting saved by a guy. That's a dreadful message to teach to young girls."
"What about Frozen?"
"That dude Kristoff helps her a ton and the songs are annoying."
"Lion King?"
"Nala's only role in the movie is being a love interest and bringing Simba back home. She should have staged an uprising or something."
"You do realise these films are fictional, right?" Alex pressed his cheek against your shoulder. "What about Toy Story?"
"The villains are too scary," you took his hand and played with his fingers.
"Okay, that's fair. How about One Hundred and One Dalmatians?"
"Don't even get me started on that one. Can you just give up, babe?" you complained, recalling how horrified you were when you first saw the movie. "I just don't like them."
"I can't believe you don't like Disney movies," Alex grumbled. "You're basically ruining my movie night."
"Fine, what's your favourite Disney movie?"
"The Little Mermaid," he said quietly.
"Oh god that's the-"
"Don't even start. You just can't appreciate cute, happy films that teach young children about the power of friendship and standing up for the people you love-"
"Isn't Aladdin about a thief who catfishes a princess?" you questioned, smirking slightly.
"They're also about becoming better people," Alex pouted before continuing his rant. "I mean what has to be so wrong with a person that they can't enjoy a film like that? They are beautifully animated and the stories are lovely and heartwarming-"
"And half of them literally focus on what a girl looks like," you interjected.
"You're such a grinch," he turned away from you. "I honestly can't believe you."
"Hey, Alex?" you whispered.
"What?"
"You're so fucking hot when you're mad," you kissed his shoulder.
"Stop trying to distract me," Alex blushed deeply. "Fine, if it was your turn to pick, what would you choose?" he moved to face you again.
"I dunno, probably Sicario or something."
"Okay, so there's something wrong with cheerful Disney movies but you will happily watch a violent movie about drug cartels. This says so much more about you than me," Alex exclaimed.
"I think I just know what a good movie is," you laughed and he frowned at you.
"I'm cancelling movie night because of that comment."
"Come on, we both know you watch Disney stuff with the boys. Just don't make me watch it," you stared into his eyes.
"You don't tell them I told you that and I won't make you watch with me," Alex backed down.
"Deal," you smiled.
"I hate you."
"I love you too."
"Not enough to watch Disney movies with me apparently."
