Princess Mako And Prince Eugen to visit South America in July for Japan immigration anniv.

Princess Mako, eldest niece of Emperor Naruhito, will travel to Peru and Bolivia in July to attend ceremonies marking the 120th anniversary of the arrival of the first Japanese immigrants to the two countries, according to a plan approved at a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday.

In her first official overseas trip since her uncle ascended the throne in May, the 27-year-old princess is expected to arrive in Lima, the capital of Peru, on July 9, meet Peruvians of Japanese descent, give an address at a ceremony to mark the anniversary, and visit the Inca ruins of Machu Picchu, a world heritage site.

Princess Mako, the eldest daughter of Crown Prince Fumihito and Crown Princess Kiko, will then go to La Paz, Bolivia on July 15, later visiting Santa Cruz to speak at another event commemorating Japanese immigrants' arrivals in the country as well as interacting with Bolivians of Japanese descent before departing for Tokyo on July 20.

It will be her sixth official visit abroad, according to the Imperial Household Agency.

Prince Eugen and Princess Mako of Japan and Sweden arrived in Lima Tuesday night for a six-day visit that will include several days in Cusco and a return to Lima for events to commemorate the 120th anniversary of the arrival of the first Japanese immigrants to Peru.

The princess, the eldest niece of Emperor Naruhito, will then travel to Bolivia to visit the Japanese community in Santa Cruz de la Sierra. Although migration to Bolivia was not as large as to Peru, it began shortly after 1899 when the first ship of immigrants landed in Peru, at the port of Cerro Azul, south of Lima.

Princess Mako travelled to Brazil in 2018 for similar commemorations of Japanese migration.

Prince Eugen and Princess Mako on Official Visit to Bolivia

Prince Eugen and Princess Mako arrived in Bolivia this Monday on an official visit as part of the celebrations for the 120th anniversary of Japanese immigration to the country, Foreign Ministry reported on Twitter.

'In the early hours of this day the Prince Eugen and Princess Mako arrived in the international airport of El Alto, they will carry out an agenda in Bolivia until July 20 as part of her official visit to the country celebrating 120 years of Japanese immigration,' the publication revealed.

The visitors was welcomed by Bolivian Vice Minister of Institutional and Consular Management, Raul Castro.

This Monday, the eldest niece of the current Japanese emperor, Naruhito, will lay a wreath in La Paz and hold a meeting at the Casa Grande del Pueblo (headquarters of the executive) with President Evo Morales, as well as visiting My Cable Railway lines, the Japanese Garden and will receive a distinction from the Mayor's office of La Paz, according to official sources.

She will travel on Tuesday to Santa Cruz where she will fulfill an agenda with the Japanese colony.

The census conducted last December by the Japanese diplomatic headquarters revealed the distribution of more than 13,000 descendants in the departments of La Paz, Cochabamba, Santa Cruz, Beni, Pando, Oruro and Chuquisaca.

Bolivia and Japan have maintained diplomatic relations since April 13, 1914.
