"Hey, Hazel Nut," Mako greets me as he walks into the room.

Hazel Nut is the nick name that he and Bolin call me. I also have a cute nickname for them, too! I call them 'stupid brothers.' I think it's adorable, what do you think? As you can probably tell, I'm still mad at them for not believing me about the Avatar- well, I guess Bolin believes me, but I could've used some backup. I know he'd never go against Mako, but he totally threw me under the bus!

Today I'm hanging out downstairs at the arena and waiting for my brothers match to start. They're pro benders, and every match leads to the finals where the winners win a big cash prize. Each team has a waterbender, an earthbender, and a firebender. There's only four airbenders in the world, so no airbender. The goal is to knock the opposing team out of their zones, and eventually off the mat completely. My brothers play on a team called "The Fire Ferrets." Mako is the firebender, Bolin is the earthbender, and Hasook is the waterbender. I don't like Hasook, and I don't think my brothers do either. I don't want to sound rude, but he is a complete neanderthal! He's insufferable to talk to, but we need him... Sadly. But that's how we make our money, and how we're able to live here in the arena.

The arena isn't so bad. I get to meet really cool people on game night, I can eat as many fire flakes as I want for FREE, and I can work out anytime I want in the gym, though I don't really work out- Maybe I'll start. I mean, did you see the Avatar? Her muscles are so impressive. If I want to be ripped like her, then I should start now. Maybe my huge muscles will make up for the firebending I lost.

"Hey," I greet my older brother.

"Whatcha doin'?" He asks.

"Oh, should I answer that? You might not believe me," I tell him, not taking my eyes off my homework.

"I get it, you're still mad at me," he finally figures out.

"Yep."

"Fine, I'll give you your space."

I continue working on my schoolwork, but I'm interrupted by Bolin walking in with some girl. He does that a lot. This one's tall, muscular, and wearing watertribe clothing.

Wait, a second...

I'd recognize those blue eyes and broad shoulders anywhere!

The Avatar!

And she's not in jail!

Bolin introduces her to Mako and I, but of course Mako gives her the cold shoulder. Ugh, he's such a jerk sometimes. He's 18, but he acts like a grouchy old man. I know it's been rough, but sometimes I wish he'd loosen up a bit and have fun with the rest of us. Also the fact that she could literally kill him!

Korra decided to sit by me on the bench while Bolin talks to our hot headed brother. That's her name... Korra. I never knew her name. Actually, I don't know anything about her. I know about a lot of Avatars, but not her. She's lived such a private life in the south, we've never heard much about her. I don't think she's ever even seen a battle before, which is weird because she's the Avatar. That's what they do, right? I just think it's exciting that we finally have another waterbending Avatar! It's been centuries since the world has had one. Avatar Kuruk was his name. I think he was from the north.

Mako is just so use to being the dad. Sometimes he forgets to cut the attitude and be regular. I guess I should cut him some slack. He is my dad-brother. He's had to raise both Bolin and I since he was 8 years old, and I was only three. He doesn't know how to be a normal.

"Hey... Avatar Korra?"

I don't know what to say. How do you greet the Avatar who doesn't know you know they're the Avatar?

"Hey, I recognize you. You're that girl from the other day!" She says excitingly.

She actually remembers me!

"Yeah! I knew it, I knew you were the Avatar! I just can't believe it. You're here, in our city! Um... You'll have to excuse my brothers. Mako has always been Mr. 'Serious All the Time,' but he'll loosen up, swear. And Bolin is um... well, he's Bolin," I explain with a smile.

"Well it's nice to meet you. I'm glad you're ok, I was worried about you," she tells me. "I wasn't expecting to see you over there that day since everyone on that street was so..."

"Old."

"That's the word," she says with a laugh.

"I like to visit them after school, they're my friends. I clean Mrs. Yang's shop and she gives me an apple."

"Ohhh," she replies. "So your brothers, they have no idea I'm the Avatar, huh?"

"I told them about that day, but Mako laughed at me and I guess Bolin believes me, but he's so oblivious to everything, so it doesn't matter.'" I sigh in frustration .

"Hmm, let's see how long it'll be until they figure it out," she says with a laugh. "It'll be fun."

...

Korra and I were cheering our butts off throughout the entire match! My brothers won, but it was a close one. I know it's harsh, but Hasook sucks! He's such a jerk, and he only thinks of himself. you should've seen him out there.  I mean, come on. Probending is a team sport, how hard is it to watch out for your teammates?

Korra went back to the locker area to congratulate the boys while I take a moment to take everything in. The Avatar is not only my brothers biggest fan, but I think we might actually be... friends? She's really nice to me, and she loves probending like me. Of course this is all new to her. I don't think she's ever been to a match before, or has had real friends her age, but I'm not judging, because I haven't either. She just seems so... Normal.

I walk back to the lockers to congratulate my brothers. Hasook is probably gone by now. I've never seen him outside of the gym. Like I said, I don't think him and my brothers are actually friends.

"She's the Avatar, and I'm an idiot," Mako says.

I'm guessing she told them?

"I'm sorry, what was that?" I taunt him with a laugh. "I  told you, but you didn't listen to me!"

"Yeah, yeah," Mako fans me off.

"No, I want to hear you say it."

"Fine. Li Na," he starts with a sigh. "You were right."

"And-"

"And... I'm sorry."

...

Li Na's narration

Everything was going great! Life was finally going as planned, I made a new friend, and my brothers had a new replacement on their team, and thank goodness for that! I couldn't stand Hasook! Korra became the newest waterbender of the Fire Ferrets. It was all so exciting. Who else could say that the Avatar is on their team?

Korra and I immediately hit it off. Even though years have passed, our relationship still means everything to me. To the world she's just the Avatar, to me, she's Korra; an amazing friend who is passionate and incredibly strong.

Days after the match, school was let out for vacation, and my relationship with my brothers was better than ever. Life seemed like the perfect dream, but that all changed when we got some terrible news.
