Waiting

I sat collapsed on the floor, just staring at their bodies. Corbyn had his phone in his hands. He must have been the one to call the police. I looked at Zach he was sitting on the floor, terrified just like me. Then the police barged into my house. They all stopped, looking at the scene around them.
"This is Officer Reagan, we are gonna need some more buses," one of them said into their walkie talkie. They looked at Zach and me, telling us to grab some towels. I ran into my bathroom and came out with a bunch of towels, handing them to the police officers. One of them kneeled down next to Jonah, putting pressure on his stab wounds. Then the police officer instructed me to do the same to Daniel. While I was applying pressure to Daniel's wounds they asked me who did this, I pointed to my bedroom. The officer handcuffed the man but left him where he laid in my bedroom since he was still unconscious. I lifted one of my hands off of the towel that I was holding on Daniel's wound and looked at it. It was covered in blood, Daniel's blood. I completely lost it then and the rest was all a blur.
Once more ambulances had arrived they took Daniel first, because he was in worse condition out of all of them. They wouldn't let me go with Daniel to the hospital, so I stayed at the scene and one by one I watched as they were put in an ambulance and rushed to the hospital.
Before I knew it, I was in an ambulance with Zach on the way to the hospital. I was so scared. I didn't know if Daniel was okay. I didn't know if any of them were okay.
Zach must have noticed how nervous I was because he grabbed my hand. I looked up at him.
"Everything is going to be okay." He said, giving me a smile. But I could see right through it, I could see how nervous he was in his eyes. He was just trying to comfort me.
"You don't know that Zach." I said, bringing my hand up to my face to wipe away the tears that were rolling down it.
"Yes I do because I have faith. It's the boys, they'll pull through. They always do." He said before pulling me into his chest. I felt him take a deep, shaky breath in. Neither of us knew what was going to happen. We were both just as scared as the other.
Once we arrived at the hospital they pulled Zach out on a stretcher, I walked next to him, holding his hand the whole way. Eventually they pulled us apart and I watched as our bloody hands were separated and he was was taken into one of the rooms to get his leg stitched up. They wouldn't allow me to go with him. I looked down at my hands, they were still covered in Daniel's blood from before. Tears formed in my eyes as I stared down at my hands. I walked into the hospital and asked a nurse where the closest bathroom was. I followed her directions and walked inside the one stall bathroom, locking the door behind me. I washed my hands in the sink and watched Daniel's blood go down the drain. I looked up in the mirror; my eyes were red and puffy, there were blood stains on my face and clothes, and my lips were cracked. I looked awful, I felt awful. The longer I stared the more I hated the sight. Tears formed in my eyes but I wiped them away, I needed to find the other boys and see how they were doing. I don't even know if any of them are alive. Oh god, I don't know if any of them are alive. I let out a shaky breathe before walking out of the bathroom and towards the front desk. The lady working at the front desk looked up at me, she stopped what she was doing when she saw how terrible I looked.
"May I help you?" She asked quietly, probably scared that if she talked too loud I would shatter like glass.
I looked at her, I couldn't form the correct words. I didn't even know what to ask anymore.
"Miss?" She asked me, pulling me out of my daze.
"Oh um I'm wondering if you can give me any details about four boys who just came in here. Corbyn Besson, Jonah Frantzich, Jack Avery, and Daniel Seavey.
"Are you family?" She asked.
"I'm dating one of them and the rest are my friends."
"Okay, well they are all going through their procedures right now. I know one of them had to go into surgery, he lost a lot of blood."
Daniel. She's talking about Daniel.
"You can go sit over there and wait. One of the boys doctors will be out soon with an update on one of them."
"Thank you." I said, nodding at her. I went and sat down on one of the waiting room chairs. Daniel is in surgery. Surgery. God, this is all my fault. I let the tears that had built up in my eyes fall as I started sobbing.
"We're here for Daniel Seavey. I'm his mom." I heard someone say in between my sobs. My head immediately shot up. I hadn't met Daniel's family yet, what a wonderful first impression this is going to be.
"You can wait over there with that girl, she was asking about him and the other boys as well." The front desk lady said, pointing at me.
His family all turned around, they gave each other unsure looks before walking towards me, obviously not knowing who I am. I stood up and looked at them. They each examined me, stopping to look at my bloody clothes and puffy face. That's when something clicked for his mom, she knew who I was.
"You must be y/n." She said.
All I did was nod, I wasn't sure how they would react to me. Would they blame me for what happened? I mean, I did deserve to be blamed. But they did the exact opposite of that, his mom pulled me into a tight hug. I was shocked at first but I eventually hugged back.
"I'm Keri, Daniel's mom. That's Jeff, Daniel's dad. That's Anna, Daniel's sister. And that's Tyler and Christian, Daniel's brothers." Kerri said pointing at each person as she introduced them.
I nodded at all of them, giving them a weak smile because that's all I could muster up right now.
"Daniel has told us so much about you." Keri said as we all sat down in the hospital chairs.
I sat looking down at my feet
"May I ask you something?" Keri asked, turning to face me, causing me to look up at her and nod.
"Did you see what happened? We don't know much, all we know is that he is in surgery. You can explain if you want, it's okay if you aren't comfortable."
She seems so nice, they all do, but I don't know if I can explain. What if they hate me? But they deserve to know, they're his family.
"Daniel was st-stabbed." I croaked out. "It's all my fault, he was protecting me. This wouldn't have happened if it wasn't for me."
They all stopped, they were in shock.
"I understand if you hate me now." I whispered.
"Honey, it is not your fault. Daniel protected you because he cares for you, that was his choice. And with everything that Daniel has told me about you, I don't think I could ever hate you. You make him so happy." Keri said, rubbing my back as I started to cry again.
"Thank you for not blaming me." I said.
"I could never blame you. Besides, you are practically apart of this family now, and we all have to be there for each other through times like this. And don't worry about Daniel, he'll pull through. He's strong and he would never leave you alone."
"Miss. y/l/n?" Someone called my name. My head shot up, it was a doctor. I stood up, and when the doctor saw me he began to speak again.
"We finished Mr. Herron's stitches and he's asking for you." The doctor said.
I turned and looked at the Seavey family, they all nodded at me telling me to go see Zach. I turned back to the doctor and he lead me to Zach's room. I walked in and looked at Zach laying on the hospital bed. He looked up at me and smiled.
"Hey." He said.
I sat down in the chair next to his bed. "Hey. How are you." I said, as I looked at his leg, which was all wrapped up.
"I'm okay. I can't really feel my leg because they gave me lidocaine." Zach said.
"I'm sorry." I whispered.
"Y/n. It's not your fault. No one blames you. I don't blame you. There is no need to apologize." Zach said.
I didn't say anything, just looked down at my feet.
"Have you seen any of the others?" Zach asked.
I looked up at him, "no, I'm waiting for updates on Jonah, Jack, and Corbyn. And Daniel is in surgery." I explained.
"Everything is going to be okay." Zach said.
"I hope you're right."
Just then, four people walked in.
"Zach." The older woman said.
"Hi mom." Zach said.
She came over and gave him a hug, along with the rest of, what I assumed was his family.
"Oh yeah, y/n this is my family. That's my mom, my dad, my brother Ryan, and my sister Reece. Guys this is y/n, she's a close friend."
"It's nice to meet you y/n." His mom said.
I smiled at her and the rest fo his family, "You all too." I said.
"Zach, what happened?" His dad asked.
Zach looked at me, "uh, I'll explain later."
I sighed, "I'm gonna go see if there are any updates on the rest of the boys. If I here anything I'll come back and let you know."
"Okay." Zach said.
I left the room and started to make my way back to the waiting area before I was stopped by someone.
"Oh, I was just coming to get you. Daniel is out of surgery."
