CHAPTER EIGHT

Loki woke up to Tony gently shaking him and calling his name. He opened his eyes to see a blinding, white light. For a second, he had to blink to adjust his eyes. He saw Tony smiling at him from above. Loki turned his head a bit to find that he was still laying in Tony’s lap, “What's up? Is something wrong?”

Tony smiled and shook his head, “Nothing’s wrong; I woke you up to tell you the lights are back on, with power.”

Loki sat up and looked around the room they were in. The fire they had made was still burning and Tony was still smiling as he sat up to stretch his legs, “When did this happen?”

Tony looked around, “About twenty minutes ago. Though the storm’s died down a little, we’re still on lockdown so I guess you're spending the night again.”

Loki smiled a bit, “Is that okay with you?”

Tony laughed, “Well, even if it wasn't, we don't have much of a choice, and even if we weren't locked down, you're always welcome to stay here any time. “

Loki smiled wider, happy to be told that he was wanted, “Alright, well, at least we have power. What time do you think it is now?”

Loki watched as Tony looked at his watch, “It’s around 3 a.m. Sorry for waking you.”

Loki shook his head, smiling, “It’s fine, but now I’m wide awake so you can sleep and I’ll get everything working again.”

Tony nodded smiled, “Thanks, but I don’t run on much sleep anyway so I’m good for another few hours. So, with that said, what do you wanna do?”

Loki thought for a moment. He honestly didn’t know what he wanted to do. “Well,” he began, “what is there to do?”

Tony gave an evil grin that made Loki’s heart skip a few beats. “Follow me,” Tony commanded. Before Loki could give a response, Tony was strolling over to a door that lead to a long stairwell. Still recovering from his previous dazzlement, Loki followed mechanically behind, as Tony must have known that he would. Loki and Tony descended the stairs for several minutes before the two stopped before a glass door. Tony pressed a code into the glass from the virtual keyboard that had suddenly appeared, to Loki’s amazement. The door slid open and Tony walked into the dark room with an air of coming home after a long stay in another country. Loki followed blindly, his eyes protesting on having to, again, readjust to the dark. Without warning, fluorescent lights flicked into life two at a time along the ceiling. Loki blinked, his eyes practically screaming at him in reproach as he glanced around. There was machinery of all shapes and sizes  lining every inch of the floor, some were even suspended from the ceiling beams. Tony grinned at Loki’s bewildered expression and threw his arms wide, turning around in a circle to gesture to the entirety of the room.

“Welcome to my man cave. Or mad-scientist lab, depending on how you view it.”

Loki gawked at him and then stared at the machinery again, this time warily. This machinery looked dangerous, and the last thing Loki wanted was to have one of these . . . things . . . slashing up his beautiful face. Tony didn’t see his precautionary stance, or he chose to ignore it. He maneuvered gracefully around his tools and plopped into a black swivel chair. Loki immediately followed Tony’s path, less gracefully, trying desperately to keep from touch any of the metallic objects. He seated himself on the second metal table next to what seemed to be Tony’s work table. Tony ran his hands over the said table, flipping papers over and moving things from their resting place haphazardly. Loki restrained himself from walking over and organizing everything for his friend. Soon, Loki wished he had done so, for Tony had finally found what he was looking for and had began tinkering with it, ignoring Loki completely.
