"Dani you bitch get the fuck down here and make my breakfast, you lazy slut!!" Another day in paradise, I think to myself. I get changed as quickly as I can being extremely cautious of the nasty looking bruise on my ribs while I race down the stairs silently praying that I won't get a beating.
Fate was never on my side anyway.
"Finally!" the fucker exclaims as he slaps me across the face. "Any longer and I would have beat you so hard you would be limping," Not like it hasn't happened before. Holding my cheek and blinking back the tears I run towards the kitchen to whip something up for my sorry excuse of a father.
After making sure the hand imprint on my face had gone down I make my way to school. Hill View High school comes into view. Its shabby worn out fence which surrounds the shitty building within looms over me as I dread another day of torture. Another day of ignoring the pain. The throbbing in my ribs still hasn't gone down and is killing with every step I take.
"Yo, Dani," I turn around and smile seeing the face of one of my closest friends Fin Turner. His brown hair messy and in his face and his green eyes brighten as they bore into my dull brown ones. "Wait up," He says jogging over towards me. If only he knew...
"Hey Fin," I greet him and wince as the throbbing in my side increases for just a second before it goes back to normal.
"What's wrong?" He says with worry in his eyes as always.
I wave my hand in the air dismissively and say "leg cramp,"
"Oh, I was gonna say what cha hurt this time," He jokes knowing how 'clumsy' I am.
A we make our way inside another smile graces my face as I see my other bestie Isabelle Pearce pulling books out of her overly decorated locker. Her long blonde hair falls down in soft waves across her back, I've always been jealous of her easy to manage hair. Compared to the brown birds nest I have to tame every morning her hair is something I've always been envy of. "Hey Dani, hey Finley," she says knowing full well how much Fin hates being called by his full name.
"Hey Izzy," he snaps back still not used to it despite being called Finley by Izzy for how many years now.
"You'll never guess what happened last night," Izzy says smiling.
Fin and I share a look as we roll our eyes knowing exactly what this is about. "Remember Layla from my physics class?" We both nod. "We had a sleepover last night if you know what I mean?" She winks still giggling, probably thinking about the night before.
That's right my bestie is a lesbian. She came out last year and I haven't seen her happier since. Only problem being she has turned into kinda a slut. Okay so I'm exaggerating not a slut but she hooks up with more people than Fin. Granted Fin's not much of a player but its surprising how many lesbians Izzy has found in this small town.
"And you didn't think to invite me. I would kill to see you and some girl have a pillow fight," Fin teases.
"Layla is not some girl," Izzy says defensively. She continues to talk but the pain in my side suddenly increases once again and I do my best not to past out. "and... hey Dani you okay?" Izzy says staring at me fretfully.
I'm fine just the usual you know abuseI think but instead say "Yea just tired, didn't get any sleep last night,"
"Me either," Izzy jokes but I can tell she's suspicious about my answer, so is Fin. The bell then rings, saved by the bellI think. Izzy waves us goodbye and starts heading the other way while me and Fin head to math's together.
"Shit" I say as I step inside the classroom causing everyone to look at me weirdly. The homework, I think. I spent all of last night bandaging my ribs which were howling in pain and still are now. I must've forgot the homework. "I forgot about the homework," I whisper to Fin as we make our way to our seats.
