four - childhood's end

Start from the beginning

"Hi everyone! Thanks for coming. So ... so we need to know what we have and what we're at risk running out of. So, there'll be an accounting of resources. Once we get a handle on that, we'll begin to ration food, eating meals communally in the cafeteria. We'll also share houses, in case water and electricity are in limited supply which, at this point, we don't know. I know some of you already do that so thank you. No one will be doing any of this alone. We'll have rotating work lists. That way, everyone contributes the same. And this includes in the decision-making, it'll be by committee. Finally, we're going to put together a committee on going home. So we can formally investigate how we got here and how we're going to get back. Adopting this new way of living doesn't mean we're giving up, it means we're smart and prepared. That's the plan. I think we should vote. Okay. All in favor, please raise your hands." Brooke was quick to raise her hand to the plan, along with most of the females and a little less boys. Brooklyn turned around seeing Clark, Luke, and Jason still had their hands down. But they raised them as the girls looked at them. "I don't think that we can do this unless it's unanimous." Cassandra continued the last of the bunch raised their hands. Harry being the last. Bean was the first to start applauding as they finally had a way to live civilly. "Alright. Meeting dismissed. Thanks for coming." She smiled.

"That is a fucking great idea because now I feel like I have a purpose." Brooklyn smiled as the three couple stood around each other.

"Rumor has it there is going to be a prom. Because Jessica was pissed about spending $700 on a dress and not being able to wear it. Her dress was ugly too so like why spend $700 on it." Gwen said, starting to ramble.

"I spent $450 on mine, so I sure as hell hope that is." Brooklyn said.

"Plus we need one last dance with our guys." Erika smiled.

"Well maybe they will hang posters up when the job list is posted." Gwen smiled.

"You do realize prom is only enjoyable for girls right?" Jason asked.

"Well, clearly you have never been to an after party." Brooklyn said looking at Erika. She then walked away from the group out of the building.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Brooklyn got a good draw for her first job, which was meal prep with Gwen. The two were chopping tomatoes ... at a very slow pace.

It also was great seeing that there was going to be a prom, one Brooke can wear her $450 dress to.

"Hey, curl your fingers in like this. Because we don't have anyone to stitch you up of you slip." Will told the two. "Plus it is quicker."

"Thanks." Brooke smiled, looking like a whole goon in her hair net.

"Once you're done can you hop to the serving line? People are not understanding the portion sizes."

"Yeah, Brooke you can head on out I'll finish up." Gwen said.

"Okay." She walked out to the serving line, seeing Harry purposely doing a horrid job.

"Harry, you gotta give them this much. We made more than enough." She took the spoon scooping a reasonable size.

She handed the spoon back to him and went to stand by Cassandra.

"Hey! your shift-" They were interrupted by a loud laugh. Brooke looked up seeing Luke walking over.

"What is on your head babe?" His face was red from laughing so hard.

"Hey don't laugh unless you want hair in your food." She said sternly. That only made him laugh harder.
