Rubbing your eyes, you sat up in Auston's king size bed and remembered the events of the previous night. Remembered your fingers intertwined around his neck while you danced to the blaring music and the scent of alcohol and sweat filled the air. Remembered his arms pulling you tightly against him as the flashing lights illuminated your faces that were inches apart. Remembered how he crashed his lips against yours when you stumbled into his apartment and he pressed you up against the wall. Remembered his hands gripping your hips and the low moans in your ear.
You blushed at the memories before pushing them aside and grabbing one of his Leafs shirts as you made your way to the bathroom. Stepping onto the cool marble, you regarded yourself in the mirror, eyes bright and hair artfully mussed up before you reached for the toothbrush Auston had bought when these nights with him had grown more frequent.
A few minutes later, as you padded into the kitchen Auston let out a low whistle as he gazed at you appreciatively and then slid a plate of pancakes towards you.
"So this is what the VIP treatment is like, huh," you joked while you ate and Auston looked at you from behind the counter.
"Anything for my bestie," he quipped back, making his voice higher in order to sound like a teenage girl.
"I'm going to tell Mitch you said that."
"Speaking of Mitch, I'm picking you up to go to his tonight so be ready on time," he said while taking a small piece of your food. So much for having a diet.
Getting up slowly, you walked over to Auston, pressing a quick kiss to his cheek, before going back to the bedroom to get your things.
"I can give you some clothes," he yelled from the kitchen, realising that you were preparing to leave.
"It's okay," you shouted back despite already dreading the walk of shame through the building and you slipped back into the short black dress, slinging your leather jacket over your arm and picking up the heels with the other hand. "I'm going to go now," you said loudly as you unlocked the door, raising your voice so that Auston could hear you over the sound of the boys screaming into his headset while they played Fortnite.
"Bye, (y/n)," he murmured back, eyes fixated on the screen and you walked out of the door, gently closing it behind you. And it happened to be just your luck that Auston's elderly neighbour, Mrs Clark, was returning from getting groceries and had the perfect opportunity to criticise you. She scowled at your appearance before hissing, "You used to be such a nice girl, what happened?" Clearly she was referring to the far less scandalous outfits you used to wear when first befriended Auston. However you simply ignored her reproval and strutted down the hallway, beaming at her.
Once you arrived back at your own apartment you were bombarded with questions from your roommate who was aware that things had been changing between you and Auston. One question stood out among them though, "What are you guys?" and to that you replied, "We're just friends," because that's exactly what you were.
"But would you date him if he asked?" she asked excitedly, caught up in your supposed romance.
"I don't know," you said nonchalantly. But you did know, you just never thought Auston would see you that way. What you had going on at the moment was just fun, just a distraction. It would never amount to anything serious.
