You and Jimin had been together for about three years now. The whole time you were together had been amazing. Jimin was always so caring, sweet and kind. He put your needs above his own, even if you disagreed with it. You loved the way he took charge of the relationship but would let you take the reigns if you wanted to. He would do anything for you. Literally anything.

It was coming up to your three year anniversary and you were so excited for it. You had never been with anyone for this long before and you wanted to show Jimin just how much the time you had spent together meant. Seeing as you both had very busy schedules, you never got to cook for him and normally ended up ordering in. You decided that you would cook him his favourite meal, kimchi jjigae, for your anniversary.
The day before your anniversary, you prepared the kimchi so that it could ferment overnight. You could just go to the store and buy some premade but you wanted to make it yourself. It made it more special that way. Halfway through making the kimchi, you heard the front door open. Jimin must be home.
"Hey, jagi! How was practise?"
"I don't wanna talk right now. I'm gonna shower."
"O-okay."
That was weird. He's never been like that. Even if he had had a bad day, he would still be nice about it. He would at least say hi back to you, if anything. Maybe he was starting to let some of the walls he had up fall? Maybe he was trying to show how he felt about all these things?

It was the night of your anniversary and you made sure that you left work early so that you could make dinner on time.
On your way home, you stopped off at your local grocery store to get the necessary ingredients. You made sure that you checked them for any damage as you wanted to get the best quality possible. You also stopped at a jewellery store as you wanted to get Jimin a nice ring as a gift. He could wear it without fans getting suspicious as he wars them all the time. Jewellery was always the way to go with gifts, either that or clothes.
You got home and checked that the kimchi had fermented okay overnight. You tried some and it was perfect! Now you could start with the meal. You followed the recipe that had been passed down in your family for years. It always made the perfect kimchi jjigae, it was foolproof.
Once the food was almost done, you set the bowls and cutlery out on the table. You brought the pot over to the metal stand and left the lid on so that it preserved the heat. You heard the front door opening, Jimin was home. You were so excited to see if he liked the meal you had made.
"Jimin! You're home!"
You skipped over to him and hugged him.
"Hey jagi! I'm so sorry about yesterday, I just had a bit of a bad day. Ooooo, something smells good! Is that kimchi jjigae?!"
"Yeah, I made it for our anniversary dinner!"
"Awwww, you didn't have to do that, babe."
"I wanted to do something special."
"That's so sweet, jagi. I bet it's amazing!"
"I hope so! I really tried."
"I can tell that you did."
He pointed to the mess that you had made in the kitchen and chuckled. You awkwardly walked backwards and grabbed a towel from the kitchen counter and covered the mess.
"Let's just ignore the mess..."
He giggled slightly at your weird antics, it was why he loved you so much. You both sat down at the table and started to eat.
"'This is so good, jagi! I could sit and eat it all day, honestly."
"Thank youuuu."
You smiled fondly at him and continued to eat.
"Was today better than yesterday then?"
"Kind of, not really though."
"What happened?"
"I don't want to talk about it, okay?"
"Okay, calm down. There's no need to get snappy, I was just trying to see if I could help in any way."
"Maybe I don't want your help."
"I was just trying to b-"
He slammed his hand down on the table, making you jump. Your heart leapt into your throat and your eyes opened wide in a mix of shock and fear. Your hands clung to your seat as if bracing yourself for the worst. He had never once lost his temper or lashed out in any way like this before.
"Just trying to be nice? Maybe you should stop just trying to be nice sometimes and leave me be."
He pushed his chair away from the table violently, making it screech loudly. He stood up and made his way upstairs. He was mumbling something that you couldn't hear but it seemed to be along the lines of angrily mimicking you.
You were so shocked at his outburst that you couldn't move or say a word. He could have just asked to change the subject but instead he decided to shout. He had never shouted at you, not just since you had been in a relationship but since you had known each other. In eight years of being friends with you, he had never done anything like this.
For a while, you just sat there. You sat and thought about the outburst and how it had affected you. You understood that most people snapped like that and that it was pretty normal but Jimin had never done it before.
Eventually, you stood up from your seat and started to clear away the dinner you had so lovingly made. You absent-mindedly washed and dried the dishes. You put everything back to where it was before you cooked. You really didn't want to go upstairs to bed later. You didn't want to have to see him after that.
You decided to watch a show on Netflix downstairs. You kept it on low volume so that you didn't agitate Jimin more than he already was. You spent the rest of the evening binge watching Netflix and comfort eating a bag of crisps. You stared at the small ring box you had wrapped up for him.
"Happy anniversary to me."
