Jasmine
It's late Sunday afternoon and I'm in my bedroom, sitting behind my study desk, typing on my laptop with purpose, my fingers deftly flying over the keyboard.
How to treat a fractured arm?
Wear any support device (splint, sling, or brace, for example) until the doctor sees you for follow-up. Keep your splint or cast clean and dry. Apply ice to the injured area for 20-30 minutes 4-5 times a day. Keep your arm elevated above the heart as much as possible to decrease swelling.
Symptoms?
Most broken arms have these symptoms:
A large amount of pain and increased pain when moving the arm.
Swelling
Maybe an obvious deformity compared to the other arm.
Possible open wound either from the bone puncturing the or from the skin being cut during the injury.
Decreased sensation or inability to move the limb, which may indicate nerve damage
When to seek medical care?
Call your doctor after an accident if these signs are present:
Significant pain that is not relieved by ice and home pain such as (Tylenol) or (Motrin)
A large amount of swelling or mild deformity of the arm compared to the opposite arm
Significant pain with use or limited use of the affected arm
Pain in one specific part of the arm when it is pressed
Your doctor may advise you to go directly to a hospital's emergency department. Under the following conditions, go directly to the hospital for emergency care:
Visible bone sticking out through the skin
Heavy bleeding from an open wound
Complete lack of movement or sensation of part of the arm
Obvious deformity that looks drastically different from the usual appearance
Loss of consciousness
Many other injuries
How long for a fractured arm to heal?
Depending on the severity of the fracture and how well a person follows their doctor's recommendations, bones can take between weeks to several months to heal. According to the Cleveland Clinic, the average bone healing time is between 6 – 8 weeks, although it can vary depending on the type and site of the injury.
What helps broken bones heal faster?
If you break a bone, make sure you are eating a balanced diet so that your bone has the necessary nutrition to make a full recovery. Watch Your Calcium. The focus should be on all nutrients. It's true that calcium is needed to heal bones, but taking excessive doses of calcium will not help you heal faster.
"6 Ideas for healing broken bones as quickly as possible," I read out loud.
I'm about to click on the link when I hear my phone's ringtone coming from my bed. I've changed it to a new song that brings back good memories.
I torture you
Take my hand through the flames
I torture you
I'm a slave to your games
I'm just a sucker for pain
I wanna chain you up
I wanna tie you down
I'm just a sucker for pain
I'm a sucker for pain
I got the squad tatted on me from my neck to my ankles
Pressure from the man got us all in rebellion--
"What?" I say in lieu of a hello.
"Where the hell have you been all day?!?" It's Quill, who evidently has a lot of free time from his job, because how else could he be bothering me when he has a wife to take care of and a multi-million-dollar company to handle?
"Somewhere," I answer vaguely, making myself more comfortable on the bed. I lie on my back and settle into a starfish position, putting my phone on speak phone before placing it a few inches near my ear.
"I thought you were going to reconsider the arrangement, Jasmine."
"My dearest brother, let me ask you something: Do any of you care about my own feelings?"
When he doesn't respond immediately, I open my mouth and sigh heavily. "I'm not saying none of you give a shit about what I think or feel, but is there honestly no other way to save the business?"
Again, the same excruciating silence, from him. A century seems to pass before Quill finally exhales audibly, then says, "There's someone you like, isn't there?"
I curl into a fetal position on the bed, hugging a rectangular pillow tightly in my arms.
"Look," he starts once more when I don't reply. "My best bet is Austin. He seems like a decent guy and he'll move on from his unrequited love eventually."
My violet eyes are wide with alertness. "How do you know he has a one-sided love?" I hiss.
Quill pauses, probably measuring his next words carefully. "We did a background check on all your suitors. So far, Austin Gonzales is your best choice."
"Really now?" I stare up at the dull ceiling. "Was there anything wrong with Damon Sandoval?"
"Why do you ask?" Quill's voice perks up a bit. "Are you interested in him?"
I snap, "No. I was just wondering why he's less of a better candidate than Gonzales."
My brother sighs deeply. "Business-wise, Sandoval isn't much of a hands-on kind of guy. He mostly relies on his parents to manage the company. Though he has certain skills to run a corporation, his sense of dependency can also be his possible downfall."
"Out of curiosity," I begin conversationally. "When is my deadline to pick someone?"
"Mid-January next year," he answers, sounding suspicious.
"Ah, then it's sufficient time for both men to lose interest."
"Jasmine Gray Ortiz-!!" he shouts.
I press the red button, ending the call.
