Chapter Seventeen —
Handcuffs
"He said what?""He said we have to look for a gun at Dewey's house," Rosa repeated herself calmly, glancing around the individual looks of confusion and astonishment from everybody in the kitchen.
"Dewey?" Grizz double checked, clearly still struggling to comprehend the information Rosa had given him. "Like Greg Dew– Hey, are you seriously making a protein shake right now?" He cut himself off to question Luke, who immediately stopped what he was doing, slowly turning around to look at them.
"No," Luke mumbled, moving away from the blender to stand next to Sasha.
The girl raised her eyebrows at him, somewhat amused, despite the seriousness of the conversation they were having. Luke met her eyes sheepishly, giving her a small shrug.
Glenn struggled to disguise his laughter at the situation, lowering his head to hide the smile forming on his lips. Rosa lightly nudged his shoulder in a scolding manner, and Glenn quickly cleared his throat, straightening up again.
"Why didn't Harry just come and tell us himself?" Allie asked, the atmosphere in the room dampening again.
"Uh, Harry's a fucking pussy," Will said with a sneer, folding his arms over his chest as he leaned back against the counter. Rosa gave him a pointed look.
"Why'd he tell you first?" Clark asked Rosa, his eyes then shifting to Gordie. "And why'd you tell him before us?"
"Apparently I'm the only person that would actually hear him out," Rosa told them. "And we went to Gordie first because he's leading the investigation."
"Harry wanted to do the right thing," Gordie added on.
Will scoffed. "That's rare for him."
Rosa gestured exasperatedly towards Will. "And this is exactly why Harry came to me first."
"Why Cassandra?" Allie asked, staring pensively into the distance. Rosa tore her firm eyes away from Will, watching as the blonde's eyebrows began to pull together. She looked up again. "Greg didn't even know her. I mean, why would he care?"
"Maybe Harry put him up to it," Grizz proposed, causing Rosa to stiffen beside him at the insinuation. "Maybe he made him confess so he could take the heat off of himself."
"Like some deep mind control," Luke said,
his eyes widening as if they were on to something.Grizz raised his eyebrows. "Right, exactly."
Rosa shook her head at them, only half amused at their theory. "You guys are fucking idiots."
"Do you believe him?" Allie asked, turning to Rosa.
Rosa didn't hesitate. "Yeah, I do."
Allie seemed to study her expression for a few moments, as if she was hoping to get more of an answer, but Rosa had not felt the need to have to justify herself for siding with him in front of the group.
Allie's inquisitive eyes then shifted to Gordie. "Do you believe him?"
"Look," Gordie started, sparing a brief glance at Rosa before addressing the rest of the room. "It's gonna sound weird, but I do. When he came up to me, he seemed, like, upset."
"He was," Rosa affirmed. "He was upset by what Dewey told him."
"It doesn't matter," Will interjected. "We have to arrest Dewey."
Allie blinked at him, almost doing a double take. "Arrest him? What do you mean, arrest him? Like, go– just go nab him off the street?"
"Yes. If he confessed–"
"What if Harry's lying?" Becca cut in.
Rosa let out a soft groan as she leaned against the wall, tilting her head up towards the ceiling, her patience thinning by the very second.
"We can't take any chances," Will decided. "Dewey could hurt somebody. We have to arrest him and search his house for the gun."
Allie looked at Luke questioningly. "Could you handle something like that?"
"I mean, yeah..." he trailed off slightly unsurely, sparing an uncertain glance at the other members of The Guard. "If we got up, like, ass-early in the morning."
Grizz nodded. "Pre-dawn raid."
"Yeah, like a pre-dawn raid, you know, like, take him by surprise," Luke explained.
"Yeah, I got handcuffs."
Rosa's eyes widened at Grizz's far too quick response, the entire kitchen suddenly falling silent. Wide eyes landed on the teenager, who simply remained unbothered by how fast he'd added that piece of information.
"You mean, like, actual handcuffs?" Luke asked, slightly hesitantly. "Or the ones you get with a Halloween costume from Walgreens?"
"Nope," Grizz nodded, his lips pursed. "Actual handcuffs."
Rosa bit back a smirk at the mixture of expressions on everyone's faces.
"Nice," Sasha grinned, winking at him playfully from across the room. "Very sexy."
Grizz's face flushed with colour. The atmosphere in the room grew even more awkward, everybody's minds on a similar train of thought.
From beside Grizz, Glenn rubbed a hand against his chin, trying to disguise the smirk forming on his lips. Rosa could no longer manage to disguise her laughter, bursting into a fit of giggles, prompting Sasha to do the same. The pair of them jeeringly them elbowed one another, straightening up as they finally managed to cut off their laughter.
After an agonising few moments, Allie eventually cleared her throat, prompting Grizz to speak again. "Look, just say thank you, okay?"
Rosa placed a hand on her best friend's shoulder, tilting her head to look up at him with a teasing grin, whilst everybody else began to break into small discussions of their own about the upcoming plans.
"Shut up," he simply told her.
Rosa held her hands up in defence, giving him a purely innocent look. "I didn't say anything."
"Your face is saying things."
Rosa patted his chest, teasing smile remaining on her lips. "Sorry, Christian Grey."
Grizz groaned and Rosa fist bumped Glenn, the two of them chuckling to themselves.
A heavy sigh of defeat left his lips. "I hate you."
