Kaden gasped and become conscious a few minutes later. He sat out from the rest of practice, and his face was all scratched up with burn from the floor. Jaclyn felt horrible, and wanted to go over and hug him and keep him company, but she was Aidan right now. She continued playing basketball, and at the end of practice, she walked over to him.
"Hey dude, you okay?"
"Fine, not a scratch." Kaden shrugged and laughed, but Jaclyn raised her eyebrows, clearly seeing his pain as he flinched. She said goodbye and headed home with her mom.
That night, she picked out a deep red dress to wear. Tomorrow she would wear some more makeup than usual, because for some reason she felt...confident and flirty.

Jaclyn sat on the bus, listening to some music while she felt Daniel staring at her. She didn't blame him. She may have dressed a little too fancy today...and she had to admit, it was an attractive look. Daniel tapped her on the arm and she turned to see him smiling at her. She took out her headphones and they started casually talking about school. When the bus arrived, Daniel said goodbye and she walked to her locker. Of course, Kaden was there and hugged her good morning.
"See you in Gym cutie!" He winked and she melted inside. Then she went to Gym and saw him. He smiled and they were about to do their warm-up run, but she couldn't help but stare at Kaden. He felt her glance, and looked back with a wink.
"Let's hangout today." He whispered in her ear later, and she nodded. She went to her locker later that day and texted her mom to ask about hanging out at Kaden's place. Her mom replied in seconds,
"It's fine, just call me later." She quickly told Kaden and he smiled with glee. When the end of the day approached, she hopped on the bus with Kaden and they sat together. Most of his guy friends rode the bus, so of course they teased them. But Kaden ignored them and chatted with Jaclyn for a little bit. Finally, they reached her house, and they entered the house to find Kaden's mom cooking dinner.
"Hey Jaclyn! It's wonderful to meet you!" His mom was literally so friendly, her smile blinded Jaclyn. She shook her hand strongly and smiled.
"It's nice to meet you too, Mrs. Winston." His mother seemed a little bothered and sad when Jaclyn said this and she wondered why. Kaden took her upstairs to his room.
"Jaclyn, next time call my mom Ms. Winston, or just Amber."
"Did I do something wrong?" Now she was worried. Kaden sighed and looked at the ground. Just then she noticed a picture of a man who looked just like Kaden on his desk. They had the same blond hair and beautiful grey and blue eyes.
"Kaden, is that...your father?" He nodded, but something about him was uncomfortable.
"He's....not here." She continued and Kaden miserably shuddered.
"It was a few years ago...the accident. This car came out of nowhere, went straight through the side of his car. There was a 0% chance he would live. Died in seconds, and we found out about it an hour later...an hour too late." Kaden's eyes were burning and threatening to spill tears. She quickly told him about her father, and how she could relate. He grabbed her in a tight hug and they both sat together, crying silently.
Later that evening, Kaden was in his room talking to Jaclyn. He was telling her that he was excited for his first basketball game of the season, and asked if she could attend. At first, Jaclyn wasn't sure. She would already be there, but as Aiden.
"Sure! I'd love to attend!" Her brain was telling her that karma would come back and bite her for agreeing to this, but she would find a way. Or perhaps, an excuse for Aiden's absence. They then went downstairs and his mother served her a delicious pasta dish. Jaclyn thanked her heavily and enjoyed the meal. To finish off the night, she watched the movie "Captain America" with Kaden as they sat on the couch.
"Sorry Kaden, Jaclyn's mom wants her home now." His mom said with a sad smile. Jaclyn had a good feeling they would be getting along well. They sat down together in the back of the shiny Lexus. "We're here." His mother said and thanked Jaclyn for coming.
"Thank you so much for having me!" She smiled and waved goodbye to his mom. Kaden walked with Jaclyn through the back garden, and she quickly showed him the beautiful plants and the trees that were losing their leaves in autumn colors. At night, the garden lights turned on and illuminated the path, and the fountains sprayed for a while. It was truly a magnificent sight to see.
"This is so beautiful...like you." Kaden blushed and hugged Jaclyn. They stood together in the garden and admired the beauty when suddenly Kaden turned towards Jaclyn.
"Even though you're right here, I still miss you." Jaclyn smiled and blushed. They were silent for a few seconds, and then Kaden leaned towards Jaclyn. She panicked for a second, but then realized he was just trying to kiss her. She leaned in and kissed him. It lasted only about five seconds, but both of them blushed. He hugged her once more, and was about to close his eyes, but he noticed someone staring at them through her neighbor’s window. It was Daniel.

Jaclyn had slept wonderfully that night, and she woke up to the happy thought of it being Friday! She dressed into a cute sundress and vans and grabbed a jacket on her way out to the bus. It was slightly chillier today, and she realized that it truly was feeling like fall. Now that is was October, the winter dance was approaching faster and faster, and she hoped she would still be with Kaden then. She hopped on the bus and saw Daniel. He looked depressed and stared out the window with a scowl. She hoped nothing bad had happened to him.
"Daniel?" She whispered, but he ignored her. It was best to leave him alone, so she plopped in headphones and watched the weather outside slowly turn into drizzling, then rain, then pouring. It seemed so congruent to his mood. When the bus pulled up to school, he stomped off into the rain and walked away fast. Kaden was at her locker, smiling at her.
"You look so beautiful today! As always. Wait...what's wrong Jaclyn?" He could clearly see her frown.
"It's Daniel...something's wrong with him..." Kaden raised an eyebrow and sighed.
"Jaclyn...he....saw us yesterday in the garden." Jaclyn gasped and turned to see Daniel at his locker wipe some wetness off his cheek. If it was of rain or a tear....she didn't know.
