☀︎Iris☀︎
I just sit here frozen. What's happening? Why is she here? Am I in trouble? Am I going to die? Why is she not screaming at me? And does she know the guys?
"Sang!" Exclaims a few of the boys. I guess that answers a few of my questions.
Sang timidly smiles, blush creeping up her cheeks. "Hi guys" he says softly, almost a whisper. And then she turns to me. Her eyes glint evilly for a second before she runs over to me and engulfs me in a tight, threatening hug.
"Iris!" She squeals "I didn't know you'd be here!" She seems less timid now as she squeezes herself between Kota and I. "How do you know the guys?" She asks, I see her eyes asking more but I'm too petrified to look too much into it.
"I-I ran into t-t-them b-by chance t-the o-other d-d-day" I reply, as freezing cold terror pours through my veins.
"How lovely!" Says sang. "Now I can spend time with my favourite sister and new friends!" She draws out the word favourite making Nathan raise an eyebrow but nobody else noticed. I have never wanted the floor to swallow me up as much as I do now.
~~~
After the most awkward few hours of my life, where I sat shoulder to shoulder to Sang (the closest I have ever been to her without experiencing extreme pain) and tried to be as normal as possible. I keep slipping into my own thoughts to try avoid the situation at hand. I'm not sure if I want it to last forever, so I can avoid what will happen when I inevitably go home, or if I want to to end as quickly as possible so I can get out of this increasingly awkward situation.Nathan and Kota seem to be the only ones to pick up on my discomfort, the others notice nothing. Just as Nathan, starts to approach Sang and I, she stands.
Sang stands up and checks her old pink watch.
"Oh my goodness look at the time!" She exclaims, feigning shock. "I'm so sorry but Iris and I must get going, I totally forgot but we have some family plans tonight. Iris must have forgotten too, right Iris?" She looks at me, her cold stare daring me to disagree, disobey."Y-yeah. R-right. It t-t-totally slipped m-my m-m-mind. S-s-sorry." I can see her visibly restrain herself from rolling her eyes at my stutter, I think Kota sees it too, and then she grabs my, skin and bone, bicep and drags me into a standing position. I manage to force my legs to remember how to walk. And then step by step we leave. Walking away from the party and towards my doom.
~~~
I'm currently sitting on my thin mattress, waiting for Sang.
When we arrived back at the house mother had called Sang, I'm not sure why, but curiosity killed the cat, and Mother killed my curiosity.
I hear footsteps approaching, I know it's Sang. I can just tell. Her footsteps are elegant and light, like a woodland fairy from my old book of fairytales, which she burned. Her footsteps barely make a noise, unlike the loud clumsy footsteps of mother, as if her ankles are shackled by her medication. Or the careless footsteps of Marie that go unnoticed by most. Or the footsteps of father, which never echo around this house anymore. Sang's footsteps are the most memorable, the most terrifying and the most dangerous. If my life was a movie, Sang's footsteps would play as the credits roll.
As the footsteps stop I hold my breath. Waiting. Trying my best to not tug too much on the last string of hope that maybe she is too tired to call me? Maybe she just wants to sleep, like me. Maybe her eyelids are as heavy as the whining door of an old abandoned mansion, like mine. Maybe she has bags under her eyes too and would rather sleep for a thousand years than call me? I try not to pull on that last thread of hope too much, because if it snaps, what do I have left?
Nothing.
"Iris" she sings. As if she knows how my heart longs for her to leave me alone.
"Iris, come down please" why won't she just leave me alone.
"Iris" she snaps. "Iris you better not ignore me" leave me alone please, I'm begging you.
"Iri-"
"Leave me alone" my eyes open as wide as saucers. I did not just say that. That must've been in my head right.
"That's it." A voice growls. "I'm coming up."
I'm too in shock to do anything as she climbs the ladder up to the attic. Oh shit.
I have probably just dug my own grave. Why am I such an idiot?
