CHAPTER 5

Lucy and I decide to go to the mall to catch up on our lack of shopping yesterday.

As we're browsing through some dresses--for Lucy, I don't really like to wear them--my phone buzzes.

Its a message from an unknown number:

'Wanna hang out today?'

"Who is it?" Lucy asks as she holds up a floral dress to check the price.

"I'm not sure..."

'Who is this?' I send.

Who would want to hang out with me? I'm already with Lucy, and besides I have her number saved. I have all of my other friends' numbers saved too. So who could this be?

'It's Jeremy, Grumpy.'

My word, this boy just gets stranger and stranger. First, he brings me cupcakes for no good reason and now this.

And he just called me Grumpy. That butthead.

"Oooh it's Jeremy," Lucy bats her eyelids at me and I roll my eyes.

"Oi, mind your own business missy," I scold her.

'Where did you get my number?' Send.

'Not important. So, do you wanna hang out?'

"Does he like you or something?" Lucy cocks an eyebrow at me as she peers over my shoulder at my phone.

"Urgh honestly woman! Stop being so nosy," I laugh. "I dunno...what do you think?"

"I think you should go for it," she smiles widely at me. "He's good looking, he's a nice person, he's funny--"

"Not about whether or not I should date him, you creep! About whether or not he likes me..."

"Oh. Yea, seems like he does." And with that, this person that I call my friend, simply shrugs and walks away. So much for being interested in my little chat with Jeremy.

Since I don't really care about embarassing myself, I get to the point.

'Do you like me Jeremy?'

'What's not to like, Grumpy ;)'

Urgh this imbecile is really annoying me now.

'No, I mean, do you have a crush on me?'

Even though I don't really care about his reply, I'm filled with curiosity as I wait for his answer.

'No.'

Oh. Okay, so Lucy isn't the best judge at a person's interests--i'll bear that in mind from now on. Even though I'm not embarrassed that I just made a fool of myself, my self-esteem did just get knocked down a few notches by his reply.

'Oh. Sorry :) why do u wanna hang out?'

Yup, that's what I'll do. Just change the topic.

'That's a sarcastic smile isn't it? :/'

'Doesn't matter. Just answer the question.'

Jeremy doesn't reply so I decide to help Lucy pick a dress since I have nothing else to do right now.

...

Two cups of tea and a slice of chocolate cake later, Jeremy finally replies.

'Don't worry about it. Was just bored.'
