CHAPTER 4

It turns out that Jeremy is a way better foosball player than Lucy--not that that's a surprise. He has a lot of practice with sport seeing as he's on the school's soccer team.

The competitive side of Kyle starts to become a sore loser when him and Lucy lose for the sixth time in a row.

"This sucks, I'm bored," he slurs in his even drunker state, before wobbling over to the couch to join Betty.

Jeremy turns to me and gives me a victorious fist-pump, just as he has these past few rounds of our game.

Lucy yawns loudly and pointedly, hinting to me that it's getting late and that we should leave. I know eleven at night isn't late for the usual party-goers but then again, like I've said and I'll say it again--the people in our school don't completely fit the usual stereotyped catergories that we fall into.

Lucy and I usually try not to stay until after eleven, midnight at the latest. Our parents aren't very strict and don't mind us being out as long as we promise to act responsibly but we don't really enjoy hanging out at these things for too long. I swear, if my dad didn't have the influence he did on my social status in life, Lucy and I would be classified as unpopular along with Jeremy-minus-his-good-looks.

After saying our goodbyes to everyone, we head outside.

"Hey Jules!" Someone behind us calls.

I whip around in mock annoyance, preparing to torment some random kid calling me, but instead I see Jeremy.

My look of annoyance doesn't even falter. In fact, it probably just got worse.

"What?" I snap.

"Mind if I get a lift with you guys?" He smiles semi-appologetically, semi-humorously at my annoyance.

"Yes."

"Jules.." Lucy warns. Oh right, I told her I'd try to be nice tonight. It's such a reflex for me to annoyed at everyone I forgot. "It's my car. Of course you can ride with us Jeremy. Where do you live?" She says, returning his smile.

"Down the road from me," I scoff.

"Aw, you noticed? How sweet," he mocks.

"I only noticed because you work at Gloria's bakery and it's next door to your house."

"Oh, so you know exactly where I live then?" He winks. "Stalker much?"

"Urgh, please. The only reason I'd stalk you would be to murder you in your sleep."

"And just why would you want to do that?"

"Because you're annoying."

"Okay! Time-out," Lucy interupts our little argument. "Let's just get you two home okay?"

 ...

The car ride isn't too bad, we just sit in uncomfortable silence most of the time, Lucy and I not wanting to voice our thoughts of the party while Jeremy is sitting on the backseat.

Lucy drops me off first as my house is the first one we pass on the way to her house.

She walks me to the front door and Jeremy gets out of the car as well. Just I think that he's going to follow us, he gets into the front passenger seat and closes the door. Apparently he doesn't like being chaufered.
