Four years, that's one thousand four hundred and sixty days. Also, thirty-five thousand and forty hours. How long has it been since she last saw him? How many lonely nights has it been for her, sitting in one corner of her room, toes curled as she looks at the empty sky. Counting the stars as she tries to sleep, staring at the clock hanging on the wall realizing times seems to move slower when she's missing him. It has been hard. Harder when those days were accompanied by those frightening heavy rain, making her room colder and somehow, lonelier.

But she survived.

"I will be back soon so don't go anywhere. Okay!? Okay!?"

Yura chuckled slightly as she heard the high-pitched scream coming from the small living room of her small studio apartment. That was Sana, her first roomie when she came to Japan to study, stayed as roomies throughout the years and they have been together ever since. They stick together like a limpet, glued and never parting ways no matter where they go. Luckily, Sana is fluent in Korean. She told Yura she lived in Korea half of her life before coming back to Japan when she was about to enter high school.

Sana, being the eccentric and outgoing person she is, loves going out especially on weekends. She'd bring Yura out to eat at her favorite sushi joint, sometimes grabbing that instant ramen they could get from the vending machine and then end up chattering the night away. Yura is grateful to have met Sana. Entirely grateful because Sana seems to fill the emptiness she's been feeling all this while. She recalled the first week when she was here, she couldn't help but to drop to the floor feeling defeated as she finds herself drained and tired of trying to hide her pain. It was too much to bear, especially when you're far from home and you have no one to turn to.

Sana walked up to her and hugged her. She didn't say anything nor asked anything. She stayed still, letting Yura soaked her shoulders with her tears. It took forever for Yura to finally regain herself, but Sana waited. Sana is that kind of person. She's loud, outspoken and almost loquacious in a way, but deep down, she has the kindest heart of all.

Sana is a blessing

"Don't worry Sana. I won't run away!", Yura replied amidst her laughter.

Yura heard the door closed and she rolled onto her back, staring at the ceiling again. It's a Saturday and she has been waiting all week to finally rest. Adulting has taken a toll on her body. After she graduated, she has been offered to continue working at the place she did her internship. Which is something she couldn't say no to. A busy life is what she needs the most. It distracts her from thinking about Taehyung.

Taehyung

Kim Taehyung

She recalls the day when she last saw him at the airport. She was strolling around the departure bay, being too early because she didn't want to be seen lingering around at the airport. Fearing she might bump into anyone, especially Taehyung. It was a dumb decision to not tell anyone, especially her best friend about leaving early but she had to.

She could still feel the pain, like a knife stabbing through her heart, slowly, as if intending to let you feel every inch of the sharp end. The first few weeks  there had been nothing but a nightmare. The haunting whispers begun again. She couldn't sleep at night, hiding underneath her blanket, Yura had to force herself to sleep, trying to shake those bad thoughts away. It was horrible, and she won't have survived without Sana.

Who would have thought, her decision to leave everything behind and start anew in Japan could hurt like this? She was so young back then, barely 19, living alone in a big busy city without anyone. She tried her best to hide her address from her mother but then she gave up. She needed her support. She showed up at her mother's door one night, drenched and soaked under the heavy rain. She remembers the look of horror in her mother's eyes, opening the door to the sight of her—red puffy eyes, swollen pale face and almost lifeless. She didn't attend her classes for a few days, trying to seek refuge in her mother's arms. Confession after confession, Yura made her mother promise to not let Taehyung know about her whereabouts. It was questionable, but her mother gave in.

Yura didn't tell her mother her exact address, just to be safe. Not that she doesn't trust her mother, but mothers will always be mothers. She had to made sure no one knows—not until she's ready. Ever since she confessed to her mother about everything, it has been lighter. Feeling the burden has been lifted from her shoulders, she can finally open up whenever her sky becomes dark and gloomy. Her mother has been there, supporting her in any way that's possible. Of course, her mother thought she was at fault. But Yura made it clear, she has nothing to worry about.

What a mess, she thought.

Everything was fine, not until her mother called one night telling her she received an envelope from Taehyung's address. Their house address. She remembered that day clearly, it was her final year of her studies, Sunday night. Her mother rang her just before she was about to go to bed, asking her if she wants to know the content of the envelope. She hesitated at first, but her mother managed to persuade her. Thus, her mother unsealed the thick A4-sized envelope.
