CHAPTER 3
After cramming two of the six chocolate cupcakes from the bag, and two of the vanilla ones, into my mouth I return to my bedroom. I know, four cupcakes seems like a bit much to eat in one go but in my defense those things are just irresistibly delicious.
I settle down amongst the pillows on my bed and begin to watch my marathon of Johnny Depp movies. Just as Jack Sparrow falls of the edge of cliff at the end of the first movie, my eyelids close and I fall asleep.
...
I jolt upright at the sharp ringing of my phone. Oh my word, who the hell is messaging me so early in the morning? It's still dark outside. Wait, hang on. I check the time on my phone—it's seven in the evening! Holy crap I slept through the whole afternoon.
I check my messages and see that Lucy has been considerate enough to ask me if I'm okay. Usually, on a Friday afternoon, she and I would go shopping. But today I had been way too tired and not in the mood. She says,
'Hey, you okay? You never turn down shopping. What's up Moodiness?'
I smile at my phone's screen. Only she could be so honest with me and call me names, while being concerned at the same time.
'I'm okay, just tired I guess." I reply.
'Okayyyy...you still going to Kyle's party tonight?'
'I dunno, I'll see.'
Yup, I'm the partying type. As Queen Bee it's kind of my job. But unlike the usual cliché Queen Bees, I don't drink, I don't smoke, and I don't do random hook-ups. I just go to these parties to have fun with my friends, and to torment a kid here and there.
Maybe I should just go to Kyle's party, he is part of my circle of friends, and almost everyone in my grade is going to be there. I go to my cupboard and scan the shelves for a suitable outfit.
'You decided to go, didn't you?' Lucy.
I swear; it's scary how this child can read my mind even if she's more than ten minutes away from me.
'Yea, I did. Will you be able to fetch me?'
'Duh, be ready in 30min'
After staring at my cupboard for about five minutes, I decide to settle with my black skinny jeans and a white shirt, complete with my white converse. It's a simple look, but I'm not in the mood to put in more effort. I quickly take a shower before changing and brushing my hair. Seeing as I never bother with make-up—because, first of all, I don't really care too much about what I look like and second of all, people are going to see me without it at school anyway because we're not allowed to wear it—I rush downstairs as soon as my brown hair looks relatively acceptable.
Just as I step outside, Lucy arrives in her white MINI Cooper.
"Hey Luce, I'm sorry for missing our shopping routine today," I smile apologetically at her. Lucy is one of the few people who I am actually nice to, other than my parents. My other friends also receive some kindness from me, but not as much as my non-blood-related-sister.
"Eh, no worries. We'll catch up on our retail therapy next week."
It takes us ten minutes to reach Kyle's house. His parents are out of the country for a week and he's using this opportunity to his full advantage.
We enter the already-packed house and it's already littered with empty beer cans and plastic cups.
Some random grade nine girls are hovering by the front door. As soon as they see me walking towards them, they scatter like ants from a shoe.
