John looked at me in total silence, trying to hide his growing worry. He tried to hide his anticipation, but his expression gave away that he really wanted me to join him. That was the last push I needed.
"You know what? I'll join you. Heck, I'm only going to live once aren't I?" I told him and a huge smile appeared on his face. He didn't even try to conceal his excitement as he jumped off the bed and jogged to the door.
"I'll go inform the rest that you'll be tagging along. Would you be a good sport and help me with the packing?" He asked me joyfully. I nodded, jumping down from the bed.
"Alright then, we'll see you in Bristol yeah?" Roger asked, turning to face us one last time before climbing into the tour bus. We had packed all of John's stuff and carried it to the bus. It was now time to leave for Bristol. Mary had been a dear and lent me a pretty black dress. "It's comfortable for traveling, trust me." She had said when she handed it to me, and she turned out to be right. We would have a lot of sitting to do today, and the dress was perfect for that. No uncomfortable seams, no chafing anywhere, no nothing. I love that woman.
"That's right Rog. We'll see you then!" I shouted and gave him a little wave. Roger laughed and waved back before walking into the bus. I leaned against my car as I waited for John to come out of the house with the driving directions to Bristol. He had printed them out because apparently, the fact that I was almost positively sure that I might know how to drive to Bristol, just wasn't good enough.
"Your hair looks pretty"
I turned around and saw him walking towards the car. I blushed and gave him a big smile.
"Thank you" I answered shyly. "Which one of us will be driving?"
He shrugged his shoulders. "I'm fine with either one of us driving. I can drive if you'd like?" He said. I threw him the car keys and he caught them with one hand.
"Impressive!"
"Thank you!"
And with that we got into the car and drove away.
"Oh come on that can't be true!" He laughed, clutching onto the steering wheel.
"I swear on my mum! It's true!" I said, laughing even harder.
"So you are saying, that when you were little you intentionally broke your ankle by running down a hill, wearing your mum's high heels, just so you could avoid going to a summer camp?" He asked, wiping water from his eyes.
"Yes! I'm telling you, it happened! Lisa cancelled on me like two days before the camp was set to begin and I didn't want to go alone, so instead of telling my mum that I didn't want to go, I went and broke my ankle. With Lisa sitting on a rock, cheering me on." I told him. John and I had been talking about the stupidest things we had done when we were little. He had told me about the time he had lowered his sister in to an empty well and left her there for an hour, just for shits and giggles. He had been grounded for a moth after that, but said it was worth it anyway. Then it had become my turn, and he couldn't believe the stupidity that I had been blessed with in birth.
"No offence, but I thought I was an idiot... but after that... Jeez." He said and laughed.
We had been driving for about forty minutes, and were almost in Worcester. I don't think I have ever had as much fun on any road-trip as I was having now. John kept cracking me up with his jokes, I seriously thought I was going to pee myself. Every time he laughed or smiled I felt an almost uncontrollable urge to reach over to him and pinch his cheek, he was simply adorable.
Car rides like this were a nice change. I closed my eyes and pictured what they had been like with William.
