I couldn't bring myself to go into my building, knowing that the damages were worse then I could possibly ever imagine. Christian, Elliot, Wes, and Taylor went inside, while Audrey and I stayed outside and spoke with the fire marshals.
It had been confirmed that the fire was an arson attempt, that spread throughout the building quickly, damaging both the first and second floors. The only good thing about this entire situation is that no one was inside the building when the fire started, but other than that...things were not looking too good.
"Hey...are you okay?" Audrey asked, as she wrapped her arm around me.
"I'm not really sure. I just... I've worked so hard to fix this place up, only to have someone come in and ruin it for me." I stressed.
"Who would do something like this? I mean...I know you have a few enemies, but those white girls wouldn't do this. Would they?"
"Honestly? I don't think they're capable of doing something like this."
"You sure about that? Well...aside from them, who else would want to set your place on fire?" She asked me. I sat there for a minute, thinking long and hard about the few people I've met down here.
"Jack Hyde." I gasped.
"Who?" She questioned, furrowing her eyebrows.
"You remember that drunken, poor excuse of a man that kept coming into the building, offering me low amounts of money? Well...he told me that I'd regret turning his ridiculous offers down. Maybe...just maybe he did this."
"Well then...there's only one way to find out. We find that son of a bitch and question him, until he admits to doing this! WES!"
"Audrey, no! We can't just accuse him of doing this, unless we have legit proof!" I huffed, shaking my head. I knew Audrey meant well, but her wanting to pop off at any given moment was starting to give me a serious headache; especially with everything that was going on at the moment.
"Then what do you suppose we do, because whoever did this will not get away with it!" She snapped, as Wes rushed over towards.
"Is everything alright?" He asked, looking back and forth from me to Audrey.
"Yeah, everything is fine."
"No, everything is not fine! Destiny thinks that some guy named Jack Hyde started this fire and I believe we need to go interrogate the man, but of course...she doesn't want to do that!"
"Interrogating that man isn't going to get us the answers we need! He could always lie and say he didn't do it, even if he did, so until we have proof...we're not interrogating anyone!" I shouted, stomping my foot.
"Did you just stomp your foot?" Audrey questioned, glaring at me. "Now that was adorable, but don't get beat up out here best friend."
"Try me and see what happens." Wes stood in between us, keeping us separated, as Christian and Elliot approached us. They were looking back and forth between us, clearly not knowing what was going on at the moment. "I need to get away from here before I lose it."
"Destiny wait!" Wes called out, but I was already making my way towards the car. I felt the tears wanting to come out, but I refused to let them do so. I wanted to at least wait until I was all alone before crying, but I don't think that was going to happen. I leaned up against the car, placing my hands on the side of the car door, while I laid my head on my hands. I needed to take a moment to breathe and calm myself down, but that moment was short lived when I felt a pair of arms wrap around my waist.
"Hey baby...are you okay?" I heard Christian ask, as he moved my hair out of the way, so he could successfully kiss my neck. I could feel myself calming down, but not enough to the point where I was in the mood to pretend like everything was alright.
"No." I murmured, closing my eyes tightly. "I take ten steps forward, just to get knocked twenty steps back. I mean...I know I've made some enemies since I've been here, but did I really piss someone off to the point where they literally ruined what is supposed to be my business?"
"Baby, look at me." I turned around to face him, allowing his to cup my face in his hands, and press his forehead against mine. "I'm going to do everything in my power to find out who did this, okay? I promise."
"I don't even think I can go home now that I have this to deal with." Just saying that hurt my heart, because I knew that my siblings would never forgive me if I missed their big day.
"Oh, you're going home and you're going to enjoy spending time with your family. You owe yourself a break from all this madness and I'm going to make sure you get it." He demanded, making me smile a little, as I wrapped my arms around his torso and hugged him tightly.
"Thank you." I said, feeling him kiss my head.
"You don't have to thank me, baby. I want you to know that I'll always be here for you, no matter what."
"I love knowing that." We pulled away from each other, as he leaned down and kissed me, breaking the kiss when we heard someone clear their throat. We turned and saw Audrey and Elliot standing there, as he gently nudged her forward.
"Don't rush me! And don't shove me either, Richie rich!" She hissed, crossing her arms, as she looked at me. "I'm sorry for what I said, best friend. I just hate that you're going through so much, even when we both know you don't deserve it. Now, I'll admit...you were right about not going to interrogate that guy, but I still think you should at least give it a try."
"What guy?" Both Christian and Elliot questioned.
"I believe Jack Hyde may have started the fire, but I don't know for sure because I don't have any proof." I told them.
"Wait a minute...didn't you get those cameras installed in here last week? Surely they were activated and could've caught the person who did this right?" Elliot asked.
"According to the security company, the camera's weren't going to be active until after the weekend, so I doubt they were even on."
"Excuse me for a minute. Taylor!" Christian called out, as they walked away from us.
"Jack Hyde? Where have I heard that name before?"
"It's Anastasia's boss, so I'm sure you heard the name from her or Kate." I sighed. "I need to go home and lay down for a minute. My head is starting to hurt."
"I don't think so!" Audrey said, shaking her head. "You're not about to lay around and feel sorry for yourself, so we're going to go out."
"Absolutely not! Audrey, we have a noon flight tomorrow and I haven't even started packing!"
"Girl bye! You have a whole wardrobe at your parents house and half the clothes in your closet haven't even been worn yet, so packing clothes should be the least of your worries."
"Where are you two going?" Elliot asked us.
"Back to California for my brother and sister's graduation." I told him.
"Hm...it's been awhile since I've been to California. Do you mind if I tag along? I can book a hotel room with a push of a button and you won't even know I'm there." Audrey glanced at me, looking as if she wanted to answer for me, which told me that she really wanted him to come along.
"Sure, why not? the more the merrier right?" Though I felt like I was going to regret this decision, I was going to do my best to enjoy myself, even if I run into some drama; which let's face it...I most definitely will run into some drama and their names are Desiree, Kelis, and Deron.
