The rest of the night was spent trying to coax her into eating, but she was still nauseated and upset- so this wasn't as easy as planned.

I was currently in bed with her, trying to get her to eat even jello, because something was better than nothing.

"I know I'm going to puke if I eat that" she spoke into my shoulder.

"Just try for me, princess" I spoke quietly.

We had already maxed out the amount of nausea medicine we could give her for the night- we couldn't do much more but hope.

But she thankfully tried.

She ate slow and small bites, whining everything I tried to make her eat more.

She gladly finished the cup of jello, handing it back to me, where I threw it away.

"Let's let that settle and I'll get you something else" I spoke, pulling her into my hold more.

"I can't eat anything else" she spoke slowly

"You need to eat more, sweet girl- you haven't eaten anything today-" "I ate like three fruit cups this morning" she quickly interjected

I was proud of her for that, that was a solid breakfast for a chemo patient.

I kissed her head gently, feeling her lean onto my collarbone.

Soon Luke strolled in, and this was someone Skylar had only met momentarily.

"She okay?" He asked in a whisper.

"Yeah, she's just nauseated" I spoke, making her lean up to see who it was before laying her head back onto my chest.

"Has she eaten?" Luke asked, his eyes trailing to the various foods I had tried to make her crave.

"We got a jello cup down" I spoke

"For now" she shot back slowly, making me squeeze her lightly.

"She's got medicine in her?" He asked, stepping closer to further examine.

"The max amount, I think it's making her a little drowsy." I spoke, earning a solid nod from her in response.

"You can go to sleep, I won't leave you" I spoke calmly.

"I don't want to have nightmares" she mumbled out.

"I don't think you'll have nightmares yet" I spoke calmly, rubbing her back gently.

"Ben said he dreams people are standing over him and shit." She mumbled.

I touched my forehead to her temple- not exactly knowing what to say because he was right- majority of cancer patients had those dreams.

"Look, here's what's going to happen" Luke spoke for me.

"The four of us are going to spend the night with you tonight- we'll make absolute sure no nurses come in so no one is actually standing there- so if you see anyone you should already know it's a dream, is that okay?" He asked.

"It's still going to scare the fuck out of me"

"And that's the second reason why we're here, to hold you and promise you that you're okay."
