"Frank Anthony Iero, you better be leaving for school now or you're going to be late again!".

Ah shit.

Hastily finishing up his eyeliner, Frank started fumbling around for his homework and backpack. "Uh...Yeah, I'm coming down! One second!".

Once he made sure that he had everything, or at least a single pencil, Frank ran downstairs and darted straight for the door.

"Whoa, whoa, whoa. What's that on your face?".

Frank felt himself freeze, his hand hovering in place over the doorknob.

I'm such an idiot...

He's going to kill me for wearing eyeli-

Frank's dad turned his son around and glared at him. "Is that a bruise? Did you get into a fight yesterday, Frank?". Frank nodded slowly in reply. "Did you win".

No, I got my ass completely beat and I needed my kinda boyfriend to patch my face up.

"Y-yeah".

His dad flashed a smile. "That's the spirit, Frank. If you toughened up a bit, you could probably join one of those sports teams at school. Make something of yourself, meet a girl for once". After a brief pause, he added, "Y'know, people aren't going to take you seriously if you keep putting all that shit on your face and playing that stupid music".

Aaaaand there it is.

"People are going to start thinking that you're, you know".

Yeah, I know.

Frank was spared from having to answer as the doorbell rang.

Shooting him on of those "This conversation isn't over yet, young man" looks, Mr. Iero opened the door with an abrupt pull.

"Hey, Frankie! Do I get a kis-"

Gerard awkwardly stood in the doorway, wearing a startled expression and faded Green Day shirt with a red tie over it "Uhh hi," he said, recomposing himself.

"What's this?".

Sliding over to Gerard's side, Frank nervously replied, feeling his mind go completely blank. "Um, Dad, this is Gerard. He's my partner for a...project". Gerard waved and forced a wide smile. "And we've gotta, er, go. To school. To work...on the thing. Yeah, bye!".

"Wait, what?".

Not bothering to take in his dad's reaction, Frank squeezed Gerard's arm and pulled him down the driveway. He didn't say a word to them other boy until they were at the edge of the block, completely out of Mr. Iero's scrutinizing eyeshot.

Frank turned around and pressed a kiss into Gerard's warm neck. "I'm sorry about that, Gee".

Gerard looked concerned. "Frank, what was all that?".

"Just some healthy father-son banter, as you do," Frank responded sarcastically. He then buried his face in Gerard's chest, feeling unwanted tears welling up in his eyes. "I hate it, Gee. I hate that I'll never meet his standards. I hate that I'll never be tough or anything. And I-I hate that he won't let me love who I want to love".

Gerard gasped softly, and then hugged Frank's small frame tightly. "Aw, Frankie. I'm sorry. I didn't know".

"It's fine. At least I've got your cute punk ass to keep me company".

Frank didn't want to let go of Gerard.

He felt super aware of how greasy his own hair was, and how unclean his hoodie probably was, but holding Gerard seemed more important at the moment.

"Come on. We have to work on that school project, partner," Gerard sighed, gently kissing Frank on the nose and draping an arm around him.

Unable to stop smirking like a completely smitten idiot, Frank nudged Gerard in the side. "Shut up".
