Chapter 68

                                    

                                          
"I just thought the movie could've been a bit better written. It was kind of cheesy." Lauren shrugs her shoulders as she steers the car.
                          
"It was a romantic comedy, Lo. It's supposed to be cheesy." Camila playfully rolls her eyes. "Besides, the twins loved it. They were kicking the whole movie."
                          
"They were trying to escape so that they could leave the theater." Lauren mumbles and Camila slaps her on the shoulder.
                          
"You're offending, Mila. She cried a bit during it so she was obviously invested." Dinah chimes in from the back seat and Camila scoffs.
                          
"It's the pregnancy hormones." Camila defends and Lauren reaches over and pats her knee.
                          
"Camila loves cheesy movies. Don't forget she's like obsessed with the Twilight series." Normani replies and Camila turns around and glares at her.
                          
"Can we all stop ganging up on the pregnant lady here?" The young Latina huffs as she leans back in her seat and places a hand on top of her belly.
                          
"I love you and your love for cheesy movies." Lauren looks over at her wife and smiles, her tongue peeking out from her teeth. About that time, a car swerves in their lane and Camila sees it before Lauren does.
                          
"Lauren, watch out!" Camila grabs the wheel and jerks it to the right just as the car enters their lane. Lauren slams on the breaks and they come to a screeching halt on the side of the bridge they were driving over.
                          
"Are you guys okay?" The older Latina scans every inch of Camila's body to make sure she's okay and then turns around to check on her two friends in the backseat. Before anyone can answer, they hear a crash and all watch out the back window of the car in horror as the car that almost hit them drives off the bridge and dives into the water.
                          
"Oh fuck." Lauren scrambles to unbuckle her seatbelt and jump out of the vehicle.
                          
"Lauren Cabello-Jauregui! Don't you even think about it!" Camila unbuckles and slides out of the car.
                          
"Camz, there are people in that car! I can't stand here and do nothing!" Lauren starts to jog to where the car ran off the bridge and Camila tries her best to keep up with her.
                          
"Lauren, no!" Camila pleads as her wife gets closer to the broken part of the bridge. The older Latina stops and turns to face her wife. Camila grabs onto her and Lauren brings her in for a searing kiss.
                          
"I love you so much. Call 911." Lauren says before she pries Camila's hands off her and runs to the edge of the bridge. Camila tries to grab her again, but before she can, the green-eyed girl dives off the bridge.
                          
"Dinah!" Camila screams as she wobbles back to their car. "Call 911! Lauren jumped in!" Dinah is already out of the car and running to meet her. The Polynesian takes her hysterical friend in her arms and consoles her.
                          
"We called 911 when it happened. They are on their way. Mani is explaining the situation to them." Dinah pulls away from the hug and places her hands on Camila's cheeks. "Hey, I need you to take calming breaths so you don't have a panic attack."
                          
"Dinah, I can't lose her. I can't lose her." Camila sobs, completely disregarding Dinah's plea for her to take calming breaths. Instead, she just pulls away and runs back to the edge of the bridge. "I don't think she's come up for air, Dinah." The Latina places her hand over her mouth as more tears pour down her cheeks. Her eyes frantically search the water below and about a minute later, two bodies float to the surface. "Lauren!" Camila screams, her voice cracking.
                          
Dinah doesn't hesitate. She jumps off the bridge and that's when Camila hears footsteps coming closer.
                          
"Dinah!" Normani screams and comes to a stop by Camila. They both watch helplessly as Dinah drags the bodies to the shore. One of them is Lauren and it looks like the other is a tiny child. Dinah alternates doing CPR on both Lauren and the small child.
