After getting away, we arrived at an abandoned hotel instead of a house, since we had to change things up a bit, so we didn't get caught. Everything was nice and all we needed we heat, water, and electricity which Jack provided due to some connections he has. Told me it was thanks to the head of the household when he used to live in a mansion then proceeded to give me a notebook that was labeled Journal. Jack told me to read it and follow any instructions that were in there. I did precisely that while Jack went out at nights to do what he did.

Part of me believed he was going out to kill more people and eat them, which he probably did but he also did provide other things that were necessary. Such as food, clothes, furniture. The truck did come in handy. He even brought a TV with him.

Weeks passed since the incident, and I've learned to accept what I am, mainly because I have tapped into the minds of the souls. Their quiet voices were whispering to me at random times about how it hurt to die or what they left behind. What they wished they could do if only they were alive. I didn't enjoy the whispers that belonged to my mom, Heather, for many reasons and the teen girl whispered very depressing things at the most random times. It would happen while showering, cooking, sleeping or just walking around. I still have a ways to go since I can't seem to shut them up.

After being in the hotel for weeks, I asked Jack if it was okay that we go out because I was tired of being stuck in the house while he got to enjoy being out. At first, he declined my request, but after a long fight, he finally agreed to let me out of the house. The only catch was that we were only going to take a walk in the woods that surrounded the hotel. It wasn't what I wanted, but it was a start, and I knew that he was only doing that to keep me safe. Once I was ready, we left the hotel together, now in walking in silence but a comfortable silence.

The only words we spoke to each other were small words, mainly me so I could catch his attention. I was just so happy to be in the woods again, even though it isn't the one I went to a lot back home. It was peaceful until Jack pulled me behind him with no warning, placing his gloved hand over my mouth to silence me. I tried to wiggle out of his hold, but he didn't let go. "Shush, do you hear that?" I stopped, trying to listen to what he was talking about but I couldn't hear a thing, at first until I caught on to the sound of footsteps heading our way.

His hand then lowered, giving me the opportunity to speak. "Do you think he found us?"

"I think it could be anyone. The one back from Georgia or another Hunter."

"We gotta run Jack."

"No, we got to get rid of them."

"Are you crazy?" I whispered my sentence while silently yelling it. "We could get killed!"

"We can get killed at any moment of any day!" He silently yelled back at me. He did have a point. At any moment, we could die any day. We are not guaranteed to live until we are at an old age. Anything can happen at this moment forward." If we don't do anything about this now, then we'll be running for our whole lives."

"Or you could stop running. These Hunters are after me, not you."

"And do you think you'll survive if you ran all on your own?" I stayed quiet because I knew that he had a point. I'd fail without him. Jack moved ahead of me while I was in my train of thoughts, pulling out what looked like a scalpel from the pockets of his jacket. He was ready to kill whoever was coming which I didn't want. I wanted to stop him, but the thought of being on the run for the rest of my life was just too much. I didn't want to look over my shoulder for my remaining years, so I let him.

I slightly turned away, knowing that I didn't want to see the terrified look of Jack's victim. I didn't have to turn away completely, so slightly turn away so I couldn't see it all, and then the caws of two crows echoed. After that some screams sounded like it belonged to a female, yelling and calling out for help. It was just too awful to hear all that so I covered my ears with my hands as hard as I could until I the only sound surrounding me was silence. The whole time I silently begged for this girl to forgive me in letting Jack kill her, hoping that she wouldn't hold any grudges once she entered my body. There was just one thing about her soul that made me notice her. She never came to me.

"Jack." I turned to look at him but quickly looked away when I saw that he was now eating her organs. The only other thing I saw before I turned around was the girl's face, and she looked young. "Jack, this isn't right."

"I told you that I could try eating human food, but it won't agree with me."

"That's not it. Jack, I didn't feel her soul." I didn't get a response from him, not for a while. I had to force myself to look at his direction, so I could know what was going on. He was looking at the body and the branch that the two crows were on. "What does that mean?"

"It means that she may not be a Hunter. She could be a Soul Taker too."
