Chapter 5: Attack

                                    

                                          
Kaya and Newt whipped around just in time to see the world before them go up in flames. It all happened so fast. More bombs exploded. People were screaming and running in every direction. All Kaya could do was watch petrified and unable to move. Three WICKED bergs touched down to the ground and their latches opened up releasing an outpour of soldiers. The soldiers carried launchers and began firing. The electricity grenades inside erupted with electric wires as they came into contact with another object.
                          
"Kaya, we need to move!" Yelled Newt, jarring her out of her state of shock. As soon as she snapped out of it, she immediately turned her focus to the camp, adrenaline coursing through her body. She jumped up and ran towards it, she heard Newt yelling her name but ignored him. She reached the burning camp and went straight for where the weapons had been stored. Suddenly, she heard a whizzing noise go by her and the hair on her arms stood up straight. 
                          
Electric grenade, thought Kaya. She dove to the side just as the grenade went off, just missing her. The fire around her was growing and she knew that she had little time to gather what she needed. Her eyes laid on exactly what she had come for. Her bow and arrow. She grabbed the bow and notched an arrow. She shot at the first soldier she saw and he fell, dead. Just as she was about to notch a second arrow a searing pain erupted in her shoulder. She cried and fell to one knee as she looked to see what happened. A bullet had just grazed her shoulder but she was already bleeding pretty heavily.
                          
Kaya pushed the pain from her mind and notched her second arrow. She shot down another soldier. Kaya fired three more times killing three more soldiers. Something suddenly shoved her from behind and she hit the ground hard enough to knock the wind out of her. She gasped for breath and turned around and came face to face with a gun. Her breath caught in her throat.
                          
The soldier sneered and said, "Any last words, princess?"
                          
Just as she was about to answer with something sarcastic the man jerked and fell dead. Newt was standing behind him, gun raised.
                          
"That'll teach him to mess with my girlfriend." Said Newt. Kaya pushed herself up and went over to him. She hugged him tightly. "I know, I know. you had it handled." He said then he pulled her down behind a crate. "Listen, Kaya. I want you to run as fast as you can and get out of here. I'll get you a clear path just run and don't look back."
                          
"You know, sometimes you're an idiot. If you think I'm leaving for one second, you're dead wrong. We fight, together, or we die trying." Said Kaya. Newt saw the determination in her face and knew it would be useless to try and convince her otherwise. Kaya started to stand up but Newt pulled her back down to him and firmly pressed his lips to hers. 
                          
"I love you." He said, resting his forehead on hers.
                          
"I love you, too." Replied Kaya. They stood up from their hiding spot and advanced.
                          
Kaya fired her bow and arrow and took out countless guards while Newt shot others down, never leaving her side in the process. In all the chaos, Kaya spotted Thomas, Minho, and Brenda all doing their part. Where was Teresa? She thought. Kaya turned around just in time to see an electric grenade hit Newt square in the chest. He was hurled backward as electric wires coursed over his body. He convulsed in obvious pain and his face was scrunched in agony.
                          
"Newt!" Screamed Kaya. She reached for another arrow and her stomach dropped when she realized she was out. Soldiers went to Newt's twitching and smoking form and picked him up. His eyes rolled into the back of his head but at least he was alive. Kaya ran at the soldiers and began to kick and punch as hard as she could. She hit the first soldier square in the jaw and he stumbled backwards. She kicked the second in the crotch and he crumpled in pain. She then swung her leg around the second soldier's head and brought him to the ground. She knocked him out cold. She was about to get up as she felt a sudden pain shoot through the back of her head. She fell to the ground, unconscious.
                          
When she woke, she was bound and gagged. She frantically looked around and relaxed as she saw Newt. He was bound and gagged, too. Her heart nearly stopped as she looked at her surroundings. Everyone left alive at the camp was on their knees facing forwards. Several soldiers had their launchers pointed at them.
                          
"Ah, she's awake." Said the man obviously in charge. His voice was rough and his face was covered in countless scars from previous battles. "Now, you may all be wondering why we are here. Don't worry. We didn't come for you. We only want these two." He gestured to Newt and Kaya. "We apologize for any other fatalities that there may have been in the process of capturing them." He smiled, clearly not sorry. "Try anything, and we'll open fire."
                          
Kaya's eyes scanned the crowd frantically looking for her friends. She made eye contact with Thomas first. She told him with her eyes not to dare and try anything. He nodded and fiercely looked back at her telling her with his eyes that they would find them. Kaya at least hoped that that was what he was trying to say.
                          
The man in charge grabbed Kaya's arm and jerked her to her feet. Newt lurched forward and said something through the gag that sounded like "Don't touch her." The man didn't hesitate to hit him in the back of the head with his gun. Newt slumped forward, unconscious. "Stupid boy."
                          
Kaya screamed through her gag and tried to reach for Newt but was jerked back. She was pulled into the body of a very large berg and she turned to watch as they dragged Newt's unconscious body on. They practically threw him down next to her.
                          
"Careful, Alex, they are needed alive." Said a soldier.
                          
"Never said anything about what condition." Replied the leader.
                          
As the berg lifted off, Kaya watched as the trap door began to shut, leaving behind the only place she ever could've called home.
