"So," he scratched the back of his neck. "How'd you get separated from your group in the first place." Newt watched as a hurt expression flashed across her face and he knew hed touched on a sensitive subject. "It's okay if you don't want to tell me. I won't pry."

Kaya began ripping fabric from the bottom of her tank top for a bandage. "No, it's fine, let's just say I had an argument with my group leader that didn't quite go in my favor. So, I left to clear my head. I was so angry I wasn't paying attention to where I was going or how long I had walked. Then, before I knew it, I was lost." She finished tying the bandage around her arm. "You seem to have walked off pretty far, too. What's your story?"

"Actually, I was in the same situation." That day, he and Thomas had got into an argument over the safety of the camp. Cranks kept getting closer and closer to the camp borders and Thomas wanted them all to leave. Newt was against leaving because his sister, Sonya, was still recovering from an injury to her leg. There's no way she could walk on her own and there was no way Newt was going anywhere without her again. He'd lost her once and he didn't plan to again. "I got in a fight with my friend Thomas and I left to clear my head, too."

"Looks like we have something in common." She smiled. "How much further to your camp?"

"Not much further. Just over this cliff, here." The rest of the journey was taken in silence.

As they finally reached the top of the cliff, the camp was visible in the valley below. Newt began to jog on his way down and Kaya jogged to keep up. At the very bottom was a rock that jutted from the side of the cliff. Newt jumped off and turned to offer Kaya his hand. Instead, she jumped and landed impressively graceful for such a height.

"Thanks." She smirked and walked past him. Newt laughed and jogged to catch up to her.

As they grew closer, Newt could see the familiar tents scattered across the valley with people coming in and out of them. The smell of food caused his stomach to grumble.

"Look!" Said Kaya, pointing towards the camp. Newt could just make out two figures running towards him. As they grew closer, he realized that it was Thomas and Minho.

"It's okay. They're friends of mine." The two boys reached them and came to a stop.

Thomas stepped forward and embraced his friend in a hug. "Where have you been? It's been hours! We worried that you wouldn't come back after...well...you know."

"I was just clearing my head. I didn't realize I was gone so long."

"Who's this shank?" Said Minho, pointing to Kaya.

"This is Kaya. I found her being attacked by two cranks. She needs medical attention. Is Teresa nearby?" Suddenly, with a groan, Kaya collapsed to the ground. "Kaya!" Cried Newt as he knelt by her side. "Go get help, I'll take care of her." He lifted her limp body into his arms and ran as fast as he could to the camp. Minho and Thomas raced back for help. He sprinted into the camp and was greeted with arms reaching for Kaya. He let her go and the people carried her into a tent where the medjacks would be. Newt followed them in and watched as they laid her onto an empty bed. Teresa began to hook up a tube to her arm.

"Whoa whoa. What's that?" He said grabbing Teresa's arm.

"It's going to restore her lost energy. It looks like she's lost a lot of blood from this cut on her arm and she's dehydrated. She needs rest for now but she will be fine."

Newt let go of her arm and relaxed. Teresa stitched up the cut on her arm and wrapped it in a proper bandage. He watched as little by little the color returned to Kaya's face and soon her eyelids fluttered open. She groaned. "Mhm...what happened? What's going on? Where am I?" Her eyes widened as she looked around frantically and began trying to sit up. Newt gently began to push her back down.

"Hey, hey, hey. It's alright you're safe here." Kaya turned and saw Newt and began to relax. She laid back down. "You passed out back there. You need to rest. You lost a lot of blood from that cut on your arm and you're dehydrated. Here, drink this." Newt handed her a glass of water that Teresa had left him to give to her when she woke up. She drank it seemingly in one gulp and looked around for more. Newt took the glass from her. "I'll get you more. I'll be right back. Don't move." Newt refilled her glass for her 3 more times after that.

"Thank you." Said Kaya. "I can't believe I passed out. How embarrassing."

"You can't seriously be blaming yourself for passing out. Your bloody lucky you passed out so close to the camp or I don't know how I would have gotten you here. Teresa stitched up your arm and said you should be fine after a day's rest." Said Newt.

"A day! No way I'm staying here for a day!" She began to get up again.

"I'll stay with you and keep you company, if you want." Said Newt with a grin.

"Well, I guess it won't be entirely unbearable now." She smiled back.

Newt talked with her until her eyes closed and didn't re-open. Her breathing slowed as she drifted off into a deep sleep. Newt stared at her peaceful face and couldn't help but smile. She truly was beautiful. He brushed her loose hair behind her ear and closed his eyes in an attempt to sleep, too.
