-----------------

You were only children when he disappeared.

One day you were playing out in the fields on the outskirts of Sparta, the next your best friend vanished from your life. It certainly took a toll on your life, seeing Alexios every day when you were a child was almost like a therapy for you. But one day when you had came to the old apple tree on the hill, Alexios didn't meet you there that day. Or the day after that. Or the day after that. After a few weeks of waiting all day and into the night for him to meet you at the tree, you slowly lost hope that he would ever meet you there again. The days slipped by and turned into years, and you thought the memory of him would fade- but it never did. He was a lingering thought in the back of your mind, coming back ever so often during the day or night to keep his own memory alive.

You eventually moved out of your parents house and bought your own home in Sparta, always believing that some part of you would never leave the city. Your parents always said "once a Spartan, always a Spartan". You were born and raised on these grounds, and you would die for the city if it came down to it. But something in you always called out to Alexios, thinking in your mind that he himself was within Sparta somehow. Anywhere you went or looked, there was always something there to remind you of him. Whether it be small children chasing each other around the square or a vendor offering his finest array of apples and strawberries, you always seemed to circle everything around your childhood friend.

You tried to keep contact with Myrrine and stay up to date with her and how she was coping with the disappearance of her son, but even she eventually disappeared. Kassandra traveled the Greek world working as a mercenary, a job you never wanted to be a part of since you thought it was too dangerous for someone like you. You saw her every so often when she would return to Sparta to keep up with her childhood home since her mother hadn't returned. She told you one time when she had just returned from a small job in Megaris that she was looking for her mother, that she wouldn't stop until her family was reunited once again. She had found Nikolaus and learned that he wasn't her real father, and that was why she had to find Myrrine so she could get some answers. You all the while had listened without interrupting and waited patiently to give her your thoughts and prayers and wished her the best of luck, and that she would find her family.

But one day when you were walking back home from the market, you caught sight of the old oak tree on the hill where you used to meet Alexios. Your eyes fixated on the thin leaves still attached to the graying bark, one of the dead leaves falling off a branch and settling onto the ground. "Come with me." A feminine voice spoke from beside you, making you jump and snap back into reality of the present day. "Kassandra? Come with you where?" You asked your mercenary friend, spotting the spear of Leonidas resting comfortably on her back. "Where it all began." She only mumbled while keeping her honey eyes on the hill in the distance- the same hill you were looking at moments ago. "What? Why would I come with you?" You murmured, catching a glance of a figure standing on the hill in the distance. You could see the faint glimmer of golden armor blinking at you in the sunlight, a broad shouldered man adorining the sparkly looking armor. "I found him, Y/N." Kassandra whishpered, turning to you to see your shocked expression. You didn't know who she was talking about immediately, but after a moment the memory of him resurfaced again.

Alexios.

"You-you- you found him?" You stuttered, blinking repeatedly as if that would wake you from the dream you've always wished would become a reality. Kassandra took you by your hands and held them, looking you right in the eyes with total seriousness. "It's not him though. Our Alexios died long ago, or so my mother believes. But I think you can get through to him, at least I hope. I've tried, but he completely shut me out a long time ago." She explained, the memory of her little brother crossing her mind, seeing the tears welling in her big brown eyes caused the same thing to happen to you. "What makes you think I can get through to him? You're his sister." You murmured, a sniffle escaping you. Kassandra chuckled lowly and held her gaze with you, her eyes full of hope. "You've always had a deeper connection with him, Y/N." She whispered, knowing that you have always harbored a love for her little brother long before he disappeared. But when he did it was as if she knew your feelings of love grew and planted deep within you.
