Myra

Something horrible had happened. I could feel it in my soul. It was the same feeling I had the night Luka had left. I had been home for three days and nothing had changed in my absence. People still whispered behind my back and my family didn’t know what to do with me. I paced back and forth in front of the mirror in my room waiting for Luka to contact me.

The rippling mirror caught my attention. Luka’s eyes came into view followed by his face. I sighed with relief and I sat down in front of the mirror. I studied my brother's appearance, he was pale and had dark circles under his eyes.

“Myra,” he said weakly. “I knew the last time we talked I promised to be home in a week.” Luka coughed.

“Where are you?” I said

“No, no. I do not want to be any trouble. A family has taken…” He coughed. “Until I’m well enough to travel, the oldest says she knows you. Her name is Luna.” He smiled when he said her name.

“Luna will take great care of you,” I said.

She is one of the most talent healers, but I wanted my brother home. Not in Vail and how did he get there anyways? Also, where is Nyght? Had he gone home? Vail wasn’t too far from the castle.

“Did Nyght go home then?”

“I really need to get some rest Myra.” He yawned. “We will talk again soon I promise”

Why was he not answering my question? I know he is ill, but that never stopped him from telling me everything. Why would he keep things from me now?

“Get some rest,” I said.

The mirror rippled with his last words. “Myra, I love you.”

“Rykar was telling the truth you know where Luka and Night are?” Brooke walked into the room arms folded. “I heard you talking at night, but I thought you were dreaming. I can’t believe you just let everyone think they were dead or worse Dusk.”

Even if I was willing to speak, I had no idea what to say. I knew that keeping Luka’s secret was wrong. It hurt people. People I love.  At the time I thought it was the best way to handle the situation and now I did not see a way out of it without Luka and Night being here in the castle.

“The real question is what to do with this information. I should tell Mother and Father.” I looked at my younger sister pleading with my eyes. “Fine.” She huffed.  “But I need to know why? Why did you let us believe they were gone?”

I turned to the mirror and said the words that would open the passageway to the hideaway. “Andurai, Kerr, Dagna, Berg, Garik, Rowan and Tait.”

Brooke’s bracelets jangled as I pulled her through the hideaway. The first time through a mirror entrance was a disorienting. Brooke struggled for air for a moment.  While Brooke adjusted I looked around. It had not changed much the wall that the mirror sat on was still covered in books. The stone table was as I had left it the day the last time I was here, covered in history and mythology books of the kingdoms.

“You can’t keep me here,” Brooke wheezed.

I pushed her into it a large red cushioned chair that was tucked in among the books. She watched me wide eyed as I told her the whole crazy story, about how Luka had a vision. That Nyght had followed him to protect him. The promise I had made. Everything. It was nice to finally use my voice, but even better was to confide in someone.

“This is why Luka left?”

 I nodded.

“A vision,” she sighed. “He asked you…no made you promise not to say anything.”
